Asus Zenfone 8 Volte on Vodafone

gday
anyone on Vodafone woth an asus zenfone 8 that has gotten volte to work?

looks like my $900 1.5yr old phone is gonna become a paperweight unless i change providers or get a major-fault refund under ACL

things tried:
- reboot
- the big #…# codes
- up-to-date updates
- new simcard

works fine on my burner aldi simcard
doesn't work at all on voda. phone needs 3g to dial.

UPDATE: Works fine.
Last thing I did to make it work was to swap sim 1 and sim 2 around; and then both picked up Volte. And when put back to where they were originally, both still picked up Volte. This survived a reboot too.

idk. im ok now

  • I googled Asus Zenfone 8 Volte and found quite a lot of guides on how to do it. What have you tried?

    • post updated

      • This code? Just want to make sure you used the right one

        *#*#3642623344#*#*

        • yes that one.
and im aware it goes away after reboot

and even if it worked, its a shitty work around

        • The vowifi and volte toggles for the status bar manager remain grayed out but toggled on

  • I had to replace my phone Sony Xperia 1 Mark 2 earlier this year because of the VoLTE thing as well (Vodafone).

The phone had the functionality, but couldn't use it on the network because it was not an "approved device". I had no reception and couldn't make or receive calls in the CBD, where I live. It shit me pretty hard.

    • (profanity)
im doing an ACL refund if i cant get this crap to work. so pissed.

      • You actually bought the phone through Vodafone?

I got mine from overseas - they stopped selling Xperias here. Other overseas phones work on VoLTE if the same model is sold here.

        • I bought the Zenfone 8 from Jbhifi in March 2022.

          • @FoxJump: Damn.. I would be pissed too!

            • @bobbified: From further googling it sounds like Asus is just being a prick to everyone across the world with Volte even with newer zenfones. Then blaming the carriers for not supporting their phone. Yet every other bloody manufacturer has their volte working.

              • @FoxJump: You said earlier that its working on ALDI (Telstra), right?

Might need to shift your service to Telstra instead….?

                • @bobbified: I could
                  but
im on a vodafone contract because i negotiated an amazing deal for $23 a month, 40GB with speed uncapped 5G and 240mins intl calls.
                  Expires Jan

                  3G dies mid-Dec
yeeees. i could "just pay" the termination fee of a month's bill.

or get jbhifi to refund me the $899 for the crappy Asus phones they sell to people; after waiting upto 6 weeks for their repair staff to "inspect my phone"

@FoxJump: Neither JB nor Asus said the phone can do volte, so what reason would you have to return it other than "I expected better from this phone".

Ultimately it is up to the buyer to do the research.

Phone was purchased 1.5 years ago. This isn't like a feature that always worked but suddenly stopped, you've never had this feature.

                    Not even ACL applies here.

@CodeXD: The "I expected better from a premium phone" is exactly it.
                      To quote ACL
"Under the Australian Consumer Law (ACL), a major failure will occur where1:
The goods would not have been acquired by a reasonable consumer if they were aware of the issue"

No body in their right mind would willingly spend $899 on a phone that they KNOW would cease functioning as a phone within its warranty lifetime because of the manufacturer's lazyness to support a basic feature that /every other phone supports/ properly. You would literally get zero sales if you advertise it as such.

So. other people may just write off their $899 or change networks, but no, this is an injustice.

                      • @FoxJump: 1.5 years after buying phone and want ACL refund.

The phone hasn't ceased functioning, it's still functioning as advertised.

                        Good luck.

@CodeXD: Stop bending over to retailers.

  • I have my beady eyes on Zenfone 9 as my next phone. From what I've read this issue is between specific networks and the Zenfone? Surely there are at least dozens, if not hundreds of zenfone users in Australia who've either had problems or not?

    • i would be wary
a premium phone that doesn't support out of the box volte everywhere is crap

  • Thanks, as I said, surely others are dealing with this issue and (either dumping their phone on Ebay or) resolving it somehow???

    • i have seen a few for sale in fb

I've reached out to asus. id rather not have to go phone shopping for a compact phone

or scrap Vodafone after 23 years of service

  • Thanks FJ I hope for your sake and mine that you get a useful answer from ASUS (the Z9 ticks a stack of boxes for me - 3.5mm socket, size, IP68) .

    • The zf 8 ticked same for me. i had to work around its pocket unlocking all the time and was willing to accept it's crappy battery life.

ill keep you posted what asus says. ill also ask about volte for zf9 and zf10

    • okay!
The bastard works with volte now

i decided tonight to swap sim1 (voda) with sim 2 (aldi)

      and both had volte enabled
i swapped them back, and they both had volte enabled.

      wtf

so, replacing my voda sim with a new one was not enough. rebooting phone, was not enough. i had to do a bit more

after a further reboot it was fine.

if i do the ##… code then it enables vowifi till the next reboot. but at all times volte works again

  • WHAT a relief for you. Those kind of things are maddening. Good result.

  • update: phone randomly bricked itself on Christmas day.
looks to be a common issue online.
back to jbhifi and asus for an acl refund

    bought a motorola instead

  • update
full refund for the zenfone from jbhifi
