iTunes Backup - Old Recovered HDD

Figured this would fall under the mobile forums.

I've got a recently recovered laptop HDD that had a local itunes backup of my old thought lost iphone 7 for a few years back, i had not icloud backup back then and only just realized i had this somewhat near when i lost it copy of a backup etc.

It's just the raw folder that was moved off by the recovery people via work on to a usb stick and is approx 69gb and likely good photos and stuff..

i've moved on with an iphone 12 since and it not like i want to replace my current phone back to the 7's old data..

but i've been trying to find ways to export that backup and there's only janky 3rd party paid software? is that the only choice? thers no way via itunes or a more official solution? I've been googling all night so far and loads of free trial or few files at a time kinda setup.. but essentially just looking to get the main data off the phone and then delete these backups..

any recommendations on the software that would work appreciated but ideally an ozbargain free way would be perfect

Just guessing here but you might need to buy an old iPhone 7 since a modern phone won’t be able to restore to such an old system version.

Then you can put the backup in the correct location and restore from it

I believe iMazing is the main tool to use - it's 3rd party software but (at least in the older versions) you could use it to open an iPhone backup file and pull data from it.

  • Look at the date of the folder, and find a version of itunes from that time. Install it on an older macbook. You should be able to copy it all off.

I use foobar2k with a component that allows you to access the itunes database on a pc.

  • Is it a MacBook?

    • Nah it’s pc win10
But only have the data recovered to a usb stick
So not on a bootable setup as such but just have the files

    • Github stuff always so confusing and I get it but it’s never easy as click and go kinda setup

I’ll try it out and see how I go but it’s always a lot of effort with GitHub stuff

It sounds like it’ll do exactly what I’m after tho so thanks for sharing

Looks like I need Java and some other files.. readme or the install guide seems a bit confusing or maybe I’m just tired today

  • Thanks @deme
was able to extract it pretty straightforward but it's kinda unsorted mess file name wise and folders etc.
but better than nothing, or paying for software for one time use
    much appreciated
