Officeworks Denied Return for Galaxy Buds

I yesterday bought new Galaxy buds from Officeworks, but one of the buds does not charge properly.

I went back to the Officeworks, not the one I bought from, with the receipt and box, to either exchange or return them, but they denied my request citing I had opened the box and I should go to Samsung for repairs.

Do I have any recourse besides trying to sell them on Gumtree?

There's usually a 14 day DOA period where they will replace or refund, I would go back as fobbing you off to the Manufacturer is illegal under ACL

Call them, Officeworks should have taken them back if they're faulty and whoever you talked to has NFI what they're doing.

  • What did you actually asked them? I dont think you can return them, unless no stocks, more like exchanged to newer one, try an another OW.

    sell them on Gumtree?

So you gonna sell broken item on Gumtree? Lol

Almost sounds like OP didn't like the item so want to return it. Lol

    • I asked for either exchange or in case they dont have any in stock, refund.

As few others that mentioned here, try a another store or call them direct. OW staff never consistent, specially when its come to price matching.

    Do I have any recourse

Show them the ACCC law regarding this.

I had this problem with a printer that was out of warranty by 2 months. The store manager was really unhelpful and rude. I asked the manager what they thought was a "reasonable lifetime" and they said the 24 month warranty was already generous.

I rang up Officeworks hotline… quoted some ACCC. They arranged a refund over the phone. Although, they were going to send a courier to collect the item..

I called them back to say I wouldn't be at home and that the courier can pick up the broken printer from Officeworks.

You should have tested them without opening the box. Rookie error.

  • Try and return them. They are junk anyway

I don't get why some OW managers are such arseholes. They seem to think you're trying to take money out of their own pocket.

Do we have any actual OW managers here that can shed some light on this?

The managers, i get ehy (obviously don't agree tho).
      It's ego and performance bonuses.

  • Are you sure they heard you correctly? They definitely don't think it's a change of mind return?

Go back to the store you bought it from, they'll have to handle the warranty claim

Retailers cannot palm you off to the manufacturer during the warranty period.

LOL So going to sell them as broken instead of calling Samsung for a warranty repair or going back to the place of purchase and trying them?
