Question: Has Anyone Cancelled JB Hi-Fi Extended Warranty in The Cooling off Period?

i bought a phone on jbhifi
the guy sold me extended warranty for a total additional $2.60

yet the invoice says $58 for the warranty and he reduced the phone cost

so can I call up the extended warranty people and get the $58 refunded and cancelled?

update: i got my $58 refunded
:D

lesson: when the jbhifi guy offers something silly with a pooled discount - accept - and later return

Just call and find out… (then come back and let us know).

    • will do tomorrow

If OP purchased the extended warranty why cancel it, whatever the charge?
      Now that doesnt make sense

OP would rather the $55.40 discount rather than pay $2.60 for the warranty.

          Like i said
Doesnt make any sense. Regardless no guarantee of the discount

SALES PERSON: Would you like to add an extended warranty to your purchase?

    CUSTOMER: What are the benefits?

SALES PERSON: If your fridge breaks down outside of the 12-month manufacturer's warranty, you'll still be covered for repairs.

TEXT: Wrong answer: under the Australian Consumer Law, your new fridge comes with an automatic guarantee of acceptable quality. Ask the seller to explain what the extended warranty gives you over and above your consumer guarantees

TEXT: Warranties: worth it? Ask the question, use your rights.

  • normally i never but extended warranty but at $2.60 i would save 30 mins explaining to the guy how acl works. but now i see a potential saving if $58 by cancelling it

So what was the price on the phone when you decided you want to go to jb to get it?

Common practice in KPI focused sales rolls to discount the main product and charge out the extended warranty at a pre determined margin so they don’t get reamed by management for not hitting targets.

I would think it’s relatively unlikely you would have got $58 off the phone unless the warranty was bundled in.

      Don't be a slimy sales person then…

      • +1

I guess op could have just… paid the normal price then and saved the

        $2.60

100% if you can do it.

They make their commission selling it and if they reduced the phone by the amount then i dont see why not.

In hindsight i shouldve done this when i bought an av receiver off them and he said for $10 more i can get 20m of speaker wire (where he made his comission)

Ended up reducing the av by $150 but then plastering $160 of speaker wire onto it.

what weird pricing games they're playing!

      • Likely something similar to 10% commission on high profit items like speaker cable, compared to minimal commission on lower profit items like AV receivers (especially if the AV receiver was close to some arbitrary floor cost already)

so theyre price hacking their own systems

          • +2

@FoxJump: Likely working around or playing with numbers to combat head office/bosses continually reducing commission rates and rising 'cost' prices within their system for which prices below earn no commission.

            • @SBOB: sounds like their game is my game too

I've done it a couple days later - just went in and said I changed my mind and they refunded very easily

    • +1

did you get the $58 or the $2.6? back

      • They didn't discount my item, I paid full price for the warranty and then changed my mind

  • @FoxJump

    any update?

    • i gotta go in store:/

      havent had a chance yet

    • update:

      success! $58 refund

      • Wow

        • now go think about all the money you've missed out on the past when you said no to the crappy extended warranty

          :)

          • @FoxJump:

            missed out
