King Mattress Fitment for IKEA BRIMNES 180x200 Bed Base

I know this topic has repeated a couple of times over the years, but I thought I would double check before dropping some cash.

Can anyone please confirm that standard king size 183x200cm mattresses (e.g. ZZZ Altelier) fit in IKEA's 'king' equivalent?

They're explicitly stated at 180x200 but I spoke with IKEA and they said there is a couple of cm leeway, but wouldn't guarantee fitment (understandably).

I've read mixed feedback saying people have easily fit Aussie king mattresses and others had issues.

We were looking to get the BRIMNES but happy to get the MALM if that's a better fit.

Any experiences or feedback would be greatly appreciated!

  • IKEA have all the measurements on their site for that bed and you know the measurements for the king mattress.

I don't see what the problem is?

If it helps we had the double size of this bed and a non IKEA mattress and it fit fine. We now have the idanas queen with a sleeping duck

    • Thanks for your comment.

Indeed the numbers don't add up but during my searches it seems like people have had luck, despite the few cm difference making it seem impossible.

As I said even the IKEA staff said the measurements aren't exact on their website - wanted to make sure before dropping hundreds!

      Cheers again.

      • A few cm is quite a lot when it comes to mattresses. There's snug and then there's impossible

Also consider that you may void the warranty of the mattress if you use an ill fitting frame

        • All excellent points and I agree.

I wouldn't pull the trigger unless a few people jumped in to confirm a certain combo of mattress/bed worked.

In my area IKEA bed frames go for nothing on marketplace so we were keen to jump on a bargain, but we may have to change our thinking.

          Thanks again for the input.

          • @Takeya2146: Definitely check out the frame you want in the IKEA store itself.

We wanted the Idanas and the one without storage underneath is flimsy as hell and rocks back and forth, the reviews support this too. We ended up going with the storage because it adds the needed support.

I imagine these sorts of issues are increased with a king frame.

Also bare in mind that that some mattress companies will void the warranty entirely if you have a queen/king mattress on a frame that doesn't have a centre support beam that touches the ground. This is a problem with Ikea frames such as the Idanas.
