Bed Frame Recommendation

Deciding between a quokka and Sleeping duck. Both are similar in price but one is timber and the other steel. Anyone had experience with either? I think quokka offers lifetime warranty while SD only 10 years

  • i have a ethnicraft king and a totem road queen bed at home
    both are great

    only ten years

How confident are you that the business with a longer one is actually still operating at that time frame?

Do you need such an expensive frame?

I bought the kids a 'real wood' bed with a storage shelf at the back for $900ish. [currently being built]

  • Antique cast iron will always look timeless imo.

  • What is it with bed frames and warranties- do (non-garbage) bed frames really fall apart?

    • It's a false economy to make you feel like it's sturdy.

You don't really expect that an iron frame bed would ever fail unless you were extremely unlucky. But it sounds good to say "10 year warranty!". It's also probably got limitations on it like bicycles do where it's "20 year warranty (on the frame only)"

      • I don't expect any bed frame, iron or wood, to fail unless it's total shit. Even Ikea frames should hold up for ages (it's been decades since I've had to deal with Ikea furniture though).

Maybe I am not just going at it often and hard enough to appreciate the nuances in bed frame sturdiness and ten year warranties.

  • Milk crates and cable ties.

but one is timber and the other steel.

How hard are you going to go on it?

  • Sleeping duck is very surdy. Don't think I'll ever need a new frame.

If you move alot I do not recommend it though, as it's heavy and quite hard to assemble and disassemble.

  • I haven't had experience with SD or Quokka but I ended up with a Koala bed frame and I love it.

    • Can I ask which one specifically did you get? And was it easy to assemble?

      • I got the Balmain Bed Base queen size. Super simple tool-less installation. Besides being a little heavy in the boxes, handling each piece individually is easy on my own.

        • That's good! And do you use a Koala queen size mattress or one from before? I think I'm looming more towards these tool-less bed frames just cause I'm a renter and move around alot.

          • @nang18: I used my previous queen size mattress so I can't comment on the quality of their mattresses. I wanted tool-less for the same reason. Our previous bed was squeaky and I hated dealing with disassembly and reassembly when we needed to move.
