Upload Speed on 4G/5G

Hello.

What upload speeds are people getting on 4G or 5G with their carriers?
Myself, with Vodafone, when my download is 250, my upload is sometimes 10 with 4/5 bars of reception at postcode 2112; and but generally it is 5 upload

Please post your carrier, upload and download speeds please

I'd like to find a carrier with good upload speeds. For example, how does telstra compare to boost for upload; or optus to circle or voda to felix, etc.
I don't particularly care about 5G in the sense of .. 100 is enough for me so i dont need .. 600; but for upload i'd much rather 50 than 10

Units all above are in Mb/s (megabits per second)

    The linked article could be a bit out of date now as it's from over two years ago and 5G towers are likely a lot more congested now with more 5G equipped phones and more data-hungry apps. The Vodafone numbers sound pathetic though, I just tested my Boost 4G (my phone isn't 5G) and it is 32Mbps upload.

    I'm Telstra Adelaide, 813 down and 11 up. Pitiful really. Still better than my Coalition HFC tho…

    Just ran a speed test, 105 down 62 up. Boost mobile in a 4g router. I have found hot-spotting to a phone is very hit & miss when moving lots of data. The router is more reliable.

    Here's some number for you,

    Sydney, somewhere near a small T4 train station in middle of HV/CBD, All Using Boost SIM unless specified otherwise, all tested against the same server on speedtest.net around just then:

    Huawei B818 Router (4G): 150.12 / 7.19
    Phone (5G, Snapdragon 888): 196 / 6.11
    Same Phone (4G): 103 / 6.62
    same phone (Lebara SIM 4G): 157 / 59.6
    Felix (on different phone, 4G): 20 / 20 (max of speed cap)

    Boost upload speed is consistently slower where I live + where I work (CBD), and vodafone on the other hand is consistently superior on upload speed.

    I used to live in Adelaide and I was never a big fan of Vodafone, but I was impressed after moving over to Sydney.

    Woolworths 4G (Telstra) - Down 40Mbps, Up: 26Mbps.

    Vodafone 5G - Down: 118Mbp, Up 24Mbps

    looks like upload speed is very location dependent
    i would not have expect that.

    Good luck. Upload speed is often crap whether it is 4G/5G, NBN, Starlink…….

    Here is an old speed test for my 5G and I got 43.1mpbs up.

    What do you need the upload for?

      I go on holidays with the kids … maybe once a year. I take a ton of photos. I like to upload them to my NAS at home while holidaying.

      I've setup my computer to be able to upload via the "free-WIFI" in the accommodation while I'm out and about taking more photos. [a bunch of DIY python scripts]

      All the phone/data plans of 50+GB mean little to me if I cant use it instead, or as well, as the accommodation WIFI for uploading my holiday snaps.

      My vodafone "contract" is coming up to an end where i pay $27.75 for 40GB of uncapped-speed 5G. And i'm on the look out for a cheaper plan with "data banking" as that would meet few-holidays-a-year but maybe 200GB that one week - scenario.

        Take a portable hard drive with you and then when you get home, transfer to the NAS? If you are transferring say 20GB of photos a day, you are going to need like 200GB for a 10 day holiday just for photos!

        Have you got data banking with family setup? My wife and I have 220GB between us a month with Telstra and we don't even get close, that's with a WiFi hotspot for my daughter's tablet when we are in the car. If I am working out in the field a lot for the month, then yes I will use it more.

        Whilst you are looking at just upload speed, you need to think about the data consumption as well. You could pay a lot per month just for those once a year or twice a year holidays. Plus, depending on where the holidays are is going to depend on the upload. It will vary based on each location. Metro CBD 5G is going to be faster than 5G in Warragul (VIC) for example.

          I will generally use the accom free wifi overnight. On 50/20 NBN it is usually enough to upload overnight. But, I havent been out for much thanks to Kids and Covid, but from what i remember some accoms are absolutely crap for free-wifi.

          I have alternatives to uploading it all asap. The laptop has 1tb free, and the cards are 256gb x 2, so it can all fit there.
          But , if I can pick a provider with reasonable rates and upload and databanking, then I am protected from my laptop/camera being stolen/flooded/burnt-in-a-bushfire.

          and the nas uploads the pics overnight to onedrive (at a reduced resolution - on a moving 1 year window) even if my house burns/burgled - i still have those pics - and the other pics are also in an offsite backup too

    On Woolworths/Telstra 5G connecting through a USB tethered phone and a GL.iNet travel router.

    Just did a speed test on the PC. Got 210/65.

    I am on Amysim 4G. Just ran 3 consecutive tests and got the following;

    165.5 down, 23.8 up.
    182.4 26.8
    173.8 28.7

    I live about 150m from the nearest tower and it was replaced/upraded about a year ago. Prior to that I was getting about 65 and 12.

    both telstra and vodafone uploads over 5megabytes during the day fail (anything over 20mb almost always fails) in speed tests starts off a few megabits then goes to kilobits and fails (vodafone is by far the worst with uploads)

    at night usually a few megabit/s can upload 100megabytes without fail

    estimated avg day speeds 2 - 10 megabits download // 0 to 6 megabits upload

    estimated avg night speeds 4 - 150 megabits download // 2 to 10 megabits upload

    tested various phones (pixel 4 xl, pixel 6a, nexus 6p, lg v40) hotspots netgear m2, huawei e5573, huawei e5885 pro 2, netgear a800s, ipad pro, samsung tab —- only x2 5G devices rest 4G

    everything sucks, tried so many different locations around the house, anything below head height usually below 5mbits for everything

    suburban area only 25mins drive out from the city

    did a whole lot of tests per hour with graphs in docker containers, still got to correlate all the data

    havent tested optus network, no cheap free sims

        cell towers 1.5km crow fly's in multiple directions except we are in a bit of a ditch, hills surrounding us
        we also have 90 degree view of dense suburban area but 5km down
        huawei e5885 pro 2 shows -89dB which seems okay and since speeds much faster at night especially 5G on the pixel 6a leads me to believe it's partly congestion issue, that same phone typically 5-10mbits during day

        also forgot to mention by telstra i mean boost & vodafone is kogan / lebara

      update: one of the speed test services i use has an export function here is a spreadsheet over 500 tests performed within past 3-4 months

      telstra and vodafone all mobile data, vocus is my nbn which skews graph a bit
      each entry timed/dated, shows ISP, test size, up/down but without device info but gives a general idea
