What Does Everyone Think about The ALDI Combi This Week

This week Aldi sells a Ferrex whipper snipper combi system that also has a polesaw, blower, hedger trimmer, etc.

A couple of months back I bought a Husqvarna 129LK to use primarily as a whipper snipper. I thought I'd get some other attachments, but the polesaw and hedge trimmer are expensive as. I thought of getting this for use once or twice a year when I need to trim the trees
Maybe use the edger as well.

Wanted to hear what the fine people here think about this machine - any good?

  • If you need the reach and are physically able, a longer polesaw will be much more useful.
Bought this recently but have only used the hedge trimmer, but with two extension poles. I bought another kit ten years ago, but the hedge trimmer gearbox ran dry (forgot to lube), it is longer and i recently used the full complement of extensions with the saw. It is heavy at full length

I have one of the older revisions.

    It's (profanity) heavy.

Everything is fine overall. Line trimmer is autofeed. Poletrimmer flexes a lot and can deform.

    • What are your thoughts on the edger?

      • IME works well for a straight line, but loud AF.

      • It's ok. Doesn't go too deep. I have a nice quality standalone which is a day and night difference. I should mention the noise, exhaust has melted the surrounding housing too. Start up isnt too painful.

With the other tools I am slowly moving to the Ryobi 36v escosystem.

        • I'm considering the Ryobi edger, but I believe it's 18v which I'm okay with since I have the batteries

Probably cheaper just to pay Jim or one of his mates to do the work every 6 months than continue to generate waste from 'deals' like this.

Would be a jungle after six months.

For things that need a polesaw etc ya muppet. Not the work he already has tools for.

  • I'm actually thinking of picking this up too. Been meaning to for a few years, but with the stock upsets of the last few years, I couldn't get it together with the batteries at the same time, so didn't get around to doing it.

    • I think this one is petrol, not electric

      • Oh! Thanks for clueing me in! I was looking at the one that's dated for the 21st of October. I didn't realise they had petrol ones on sale now!

  • Why do you need a separate edger? Just use the whipper snipper.

    • I'm not managing to make a straight enough line with mine
