I think Zelda ToTK is overrated.
I'm few hours into the game and it's boring and confusing. I don't get the same excitement as when playing BoTW.
It's more minecraft (with weird controls) than zelda

    • i couldn't really finish the first one….I guess you have to be a fan or something

      • I'm a Zelda fan.. but not BoTW / ToTK type of Zelda..
I guess BoTW was new concept back then, so I managed to finish it even though it's very tedious and repetitive.

BotW wasn't great. Breaking weapons multiples times against single goblins was nuts. And such an arduous process to gain inventory slots to compensate. It was more chore than adventure until mid-late game. And then suddenly it's too easy because all those chores weren't required due to the master sword infinite durability and high power. It made no sense at all

    • Only played a bit of ToTK so far. BoTW was fun, but never finished it, got stuck in the exploring loop and enjoyed that more than the overall story. I can definitely see why people rate it highly… it's very much what Ragnarok was to GoW 2018 IMO, more of the same with added bonuses.

Kirby is one of the Switches best and most overlooked games imo. Definitely worth giving it a go (if it comes back in stock).

    • +1. This Kirby game was great

    • Yep, very under-rated.

Is this worth grabbing if you haven't played breath of the wild to any meaningful level? I've played about an hour of the earlier game.

didn't realise there are so many zelda fanboys sheesh

I didn't play BOTW and loved TOTK. I've heard countless times there's no need to have played the earlier game (other than maybe giving the opening scene a little more context).

I've played both, no need to play BOTW. The first sequence sets up the plot and the opening area acts as a tutorial to get you used to the mechanics and controls.

I do think you'll get more out of it if you played the first one - in terms of references to areas, characters and plot. But it won't make or break the experience.

I personally preferred TOTK over BOTW.

    THanks OP. Bought Zelda.
Finished BotW but at lower level fighting the final boss. I think I have to rely on walkthrough here and there after about 70% of the game as I found myself wasting too much time. I only have 1hr a day to play so it took me good 4-5 months.

    • I love that about botw though. You never needed to finish the game, you can fight the boss whenever you feel like. I only play 1 hour per day and I felt like every moment is an adventure because there is no end point i need to force myself to get to.

As long as you're out of the plateau, you technically in end game.
