Sony Trade-in / Repair Earbuds

I've got a pair of Sony earbuds WF-1000XM4 that have worked really well for the past 1/1.5 years. Recently though, they will go to MAX VOLUME after they're paused. It happens intermittently but at least several times a day. Sony support recommended a factory reset, which seemed to fix the problem but it's back again…

Sony has offered a trade-in for the newer model WF-1000XM5 for $299.

Alternatively, they offered to repair the unit for a fee to be paid 'upfront' but I haven't been quoted an actual fee.

Earbuds are less than 2 years old.

Has anyone else had issues with their XM4's ?

Did you end up doing a trade-in or getting a repair ?

How was the customer service experience etc

"Earbuds are less than 2 years old."
I'd push for free repair or replacement, as if it's 'normal' to pay hundreds of dollars every two years
    .

  • Yep, push them to be covered under warranty/Aus Consumer Law.

  • Report back how you go if you do attempt to push then with the acl play.

  • I had issues with mine, random disconnects and battery draining too quickly on the left one.
They offered free repair even though it was a few months out of warranty.

  • So they offered to repair them — but would charge a fee if nothing found wrong — but i figured out the problem. I would switch between listening to Spotify playlists, and checking Instagram. For some reason, iOS would change the system volume … so switching back to Spotify after the gram would leave volume on max volume.

Can't say if there's really anything wrong with the buds. Did a couple of factory resets and they seem OK. Didn't bother with the repair
