Suggest Me Android Upgrade from S10+

Hey All,

Its been 4 years since I upgraded my phone, currently on S10+ and Galaxy watch 4, so in Samsung Ecosystem. I am not a heavy camera or games user. Just browsing social media and occassional Youtube. I am thinking to go with S23 Ultra as upgrade, however S24 is only few months away, so should I wait or go with S24. I was also thinking of S23 FE in the interim with all the freebies and offers but trying to stay away from Exynos.

Suggestions?

    Wait for the S26

I just got a 256 s23ultra for $1163 to replace my note 10plus. I am guessing your phone battery is done and might be glitching mine certainly is after 4 years.

Also I read reviews that the S24 might not be a big upgrade which is probably right in this economy and how the competition is atm.

I had a thought of going to google pro but we know we like this phone and ecosystem etc. So stick with the same screen size or bigger and go Samsung.

500 trade in offer, just say your phone is cracked on back and it will show as 1$ and just don't return it.

The S23 Ultra is really only necessary if you are after it's improved cameras, 10x optical zoom lens and it's included S-Pen, but otherwise the S23 Plus has exactly the same processor, same water resistance, nearly the same battery size (-300mah difference) and enough RAM for most users.

Mobile phones are very subjective. I've not used the plus models, but here's my experience moving from S10 to S23. Used S10 from Oct'19 until Jul'23.

I find S10 to be superior to S23 in most aspects.

    Here's where S10 is better:

    • Curved screen. When I first got the S10, I wasn't a big fan and getting a screen protector was a bit of a pain. Now the flat screen of S23 feels so odd - brick like. S10 on the other hand glides in and out of my back pocket.
    • Size. Event though S23 is slightly shorter than S10, the S10 fits better in hand and feels smaller because it's narrower.
    • Screen. This should have been #1. The screen on S23 is noticeably inferior. S10 screen has higher resolution and the display is noticeably sharper. Believe it or not my S23 gathers more lint and I think it's because of the flat display.
*SD Card slot + headphone slot. It'll be hard to find a phone with these, but it was good to have those on S10.
    • Button placement: power button on the right and volume buttons on the left. I use my phone mainly with left hand and I find it every easy to control the volume during a phone call/video call. With S23, all the buttons are on the right. Definitely not comfortable.

    Here's what's better about S23:

    • Sound quality. Not sure if it's just a software thing or whether S23 uses a better DAC, I find the sound a bit deeper with more stereo separation. This again could be a personal thing.

My suggestion: wait for S24+ and see if you like it. If you don't, you could still go for an S23+

Yep, beautiful 1440 x 3040 screen. You would need to get the S23U for the same resolution. The S10/+ was an excellent phone.

  • Rumors are that S24 will also be exynos so if you want samsung + snapdragon then S23 is the way to go.

How do you feel about flip5/fold5? Those are also something to consider too.

    • Thought of fold 5, however got young kids who grab my phone from time to time for YouTube kids so can't risk that.

  • Based on your usage, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra seems like a good choice for you. However, if you are willing to wait a few months, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is expected to be released soon.

If you are looking for a more affordable option in the interim, the Samsung Galaxy S23 FE is a great choice.

A jump from S10+ to ANYTHING current day +++ FLAGSHIP … is going to be chalk & cheese.
hey, I'm currently on a 2018 Huawei phone (similar specs to your 2019 S10 phone) … and looking at upgrading soon.

Have you looked at the Pixel 8 (pro) series ????
That is where I am currently headed … beats the S23 in soo many areas (unless you are one of those ppl that is all about the numbers).

Also - OP you have not stated your budget ???
That will help to tie down what specific phone suits your needs.

Comparing a $400 phone (years old) … to a current model $1600+ phone == of course going to be huge differences.

  • Just browsing social media and occassional Youtube.

….proceeds to buy flagship phone anyway.

Seriously some cheap $200+ phone can do that.

    • Flagships tend to last longer, can get couple of years out of them

      • I get at least 3 years out of $300 phones. Can't see much point spending anymore.
