When Did Amazon's Non-Prime Free Shipping Limit Increase to $59 (from $39) ?

My Prime subscription ran out a week ago and I did not renew. Instead I've been saving items in my cart until I reach the $39 free shipping limit and planned to purchase once over the limit. This morning I have gone in after receiving a CamelCamelCamel notification for something I wanted on sale, and proceeded to checkout with ~$39 worth of items. All items are sold and shipped by Amazon AU, however it has stated that I need to add ~$20 more to my cart to reach a $59 threshold for free shipping and directed to me to this page for more information. The title of the page and in the left column still state $39 as the limit, and when I go through help pages manually (i.e. not through the link that popped up in cart), I get variously $39 or $49 for the limit (their help pages are not consistent!). Is this just punishment for cancelling Prime? Or is the limit now $59 for everyone? Note that I am in Brisbane and deliveries are via Amazon Flex, not a courier or AP, so it's not a regional penalty.

Thank you for the heads up Amazon!

Exactly, there was no notice from Amazon, no transition period and even their help pages don't have the correct limit.

    Sounds fair.

The cost to pay their subcontractors would have no doubt increased in the past year.

Prime membership also went up. I'm not sure I'll renew my membership early next year.

I'm happy to do a bulk order for $60 of goods for free delivery.

I do feel bad for the environment when I get a single $3 order delivered. At least the delivery driver gets paid. Don't really care that it's costing Amazon for the free delivery.

I'm not arguing that it's not fair or reasonable, as you're right that Flex subcontractor costs have increased. I'm more annoyed that there has been zero notice, no communication and that their help pages when I questioned it aren't even consistent. I've gone on chat with a rep and they still insist it's $39 and that I experienced a glitch. So it seems even their staff don't know about the change.

The customer service staff may be last to find out what management does.

They give ongoing customers (prime members) notice when it affects them.

Unfortunately, you aren't an ongoing customer to them so there's no requirement for them to inform anyone before it occurs.

Just get a pack of quilton toilet paper to increase the order to >$59 and move on.

  • In Prime we Trust.

  • Wasn't the $39 amount meant to be temporary anyway? i am sure that it was originally $59 and they only dropped it for a "promotion"

      Wasn't that for international?

  • Why do you feel like you have to be notified of this change?

You aren't paying a monthly fee and every other shop that changes their minimum delivery spend just does it. You find out when you go shop there next.

First with the Prime membership increased, and now the limit has increased for free delivery for non Prime members

  • People in the US have it worse, $35 to $150
    I know it’s Amazon grocery but still…

I canceled my Prime last week after being a member from day one, it used to mean something. Now however there is no real benefit for me , I just noticed the $59 myself was also

wondering if I was being punished. What got my goat up is how I now need to wait almost a week for dispatch of in stock items sold by Amazon and also they have started using

Aramex as well and their deliveries always run 2 to 3 days over the estimate , Amazon offered me refunds on a few items but I don't want refunds I want to get what I paid for after

waiting 3 weeks not having to go through the whole process again, this is just ridiculous, so bye bye Prime.

  • oh no!! bad bad news for us

Amazon now is not the same as Amazon before. Time to move on to other business!

    • It's the same, it's just starting to consolidate a monopoly.

  • Amazon free non-prime delivery times are ridiculously long too.. 2 weeks vs 2-4 days with Prime!
It's such an obvious dirty trick. They can go suck eggs.
