Even cheaper than when I posted it back in February! This time directly from Amazon. The Three Camels says it's the cheapest it's been from them. I guess they must be clearing stock or something.

And a quick search doesn't show it cheaper anywhere else this time. Officeworks has it listed at the same price, but also out of stock online and in the stores around me.

Still liking the ones I'm using. Good colour and brightness. Except for the one on the back of my monitor that doesn't want to stay connect, but at least its plug is easily accessible.

Honestly, I wouldn't buy these again unless where it gets installed is right next to a wifi AP.

Both of mine with various wifi AP vendors over the years have been very inconsistent.

They are built for light use

      Thanks for the honesty

    • Mine are the same, spend alot of time restarting them. But they're the brightest and best coloured lights ive ever used.

I have one and been using it over a year and had no problems with connectivity. Id buy it again but I dont know where to put it lol

Yeh the wifi connectivity and lag with these is not great. Also never forgiving them for not supporting $500 worth of my bulbs with HomeKit after promising to.

    • That was probably Apple's fault. My understanding is that a lot of equipment had the required tech to become homekit compatible, but apple set a rule that said every device needs to also have it's homekit ID physically printed onto it. So that's an impossibility for pre-sold products.

  • I have one of these on the back of my bed. It is great for subtle lighting when you don't want overhead or even bedside lights on. As for connectivity issues, I've not had any real issues apart from my router & it's weekly spaz attack where it refuses any connection from all devices but that's a whole different story.

  • I have one that is completely broken now, just repeats its colours over and over again. Would not buy again.

That fault means the data signal isn't getting through the chain. If the whole strip is doing it, it sounds like the first LED controller is deaf, or the WiFi controller is mute. Maybe swap the strips, if you have two?

What did they say for warranty?

  • Any recommendation for sensor LED strips (2m)

  • Had mine a few years. Happens it drops connection to HomeKit. Great light otherwise. Good white. I have it as sensor for temperature and door sensors. (If hot in one bedroom red and so on. One sensor in freezer if getting hot). Would recommend for this price but not more.

    • Has your freezer sensor ever triggered it?

      • Yes, once when kids forgot to close lid. Had when it was getting warmer than -8 to turn light on. Also using homebridge as hub for not HomeKit smart things. Works quite good. Used ewelink SonOff previously and all linked up to Apple. Just need an old iPad or Apple TV to run as home hub. Only drama I found was older smart things don’t like shared 2.4 5ghz wifi band (example Google nest wifi, and yes guest is also split) so had to use a separate older router for 2.4 network for dedicated 2.4 network. Dropped too many times.

        • It is a smart temperature sensor in it. Not from freezer itself. Now I also got one that if lid is opened more than 10 minutes to warn.

        • That's cool, good that it saved you that time. My fridge beeps at me when the door is open so was intertested in the scenario that caused it to trigger.

I'm using HomeAssistant on a proxmox VM running on a Dell Optiplex 7050 as my controller. For WiFi I've got a Unifi setup with a separate SSID that only runs on 2.4ghz, connected to a separate VLAN to control traffic and for increased security. Seems to work well!

          • @Domingo: Deep Freezer in garage so won’t hear it. Currently running a vm as well for it, bit of overkill. 5800x with 48gb ram. Few vms on it. But might push it over to rPi when finally FTTP gets connected next week. And run PLEX on nvidia shield. Currently have FTTN and Starlink. Sort all the network setup after connected and just go with one provider. Couldn’t be bothered to bond them. Got a load balancing router that I’ve not used. And few things needing static ip so just skipped it lol. Pc got both networks running.

Have 3 at home using in various places. Runs for roughly 7-8hrs every evening for the past 2 year with no issues. Paid rrp of $99, at $47 I'm stocking up.

      Incorrect.

      • Was showing OOS for me…weird…

    Just 1m?

    What a rip-off.

  • Lifx say they are working on new products, you would assume using Matter and Thread, that are coming soon. Presumably this is clearing out the previous gen.

If you're gonna pay top dollar go with Hue. LIFX don't seem to have the consistency in quality that Philips have had over the past decade.

    • +1

i have hue as well and i actually prefer lifx.

  • officeworks has the same deal going, they also have the 2m for $77:
    https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/lifx-smart…

    • That showed as unavailable online to me, and I couldn't find any stock in store by entering a few random postcodes.

  • I had constant wifi drop outs (literally like 80% of the time we tried to use) on this bad boy and then it just completely died.

    Moved to Phillips Hue. Seamless.

Understand some have privacy issues with Phillis but doesn't bother me at all.

My experience was similar to sooooo many on Reddit.

    • My LIFX bulbs are pretty good. But similarly, also regularly disconnect and stop working and require a reset

    • I've got a 1 metre one behind my monitor and a 2 metre one on the back edge of my desk. I'm not sure if it's the close proximity of both of the controllers, or whether it's the mess of other electrical cords under the desk interfering, but yeah, I can only seem to keep one connected most of the time. Occasionally the disconnected one will work fine though.

But apart from a bit of trouble connecting all my bulbs again when I got a new router (which from memory, was easier with my old one :/), the rest of them have all been solid for wifi connectivity.

When I got my first LIFX bulb I just didn't want to have to buy the bridge to get into the Hue universe, or pay the price of their lighting to be honest. I've only bought the LIFX stuff at reasonable discounts. However, knowing what I know now, if I was starting again… perhaps I would go the Hue route.

I still like the brightness and colour temperature of the LIFX lights though.

  • Seems to be out of stock.
