How to Clean Dirt and Fingerprints from Photos?

I'm planning to scan printed photos and some of them got dirt, food stains and fingerprints.

What would be the best way to clean them?
With wet (water) microfibre cloth or microfibre with a bit of alcohol solution?

I have watched a few YouTube videos but they are slightly contradicting.

  • Depends on the type of print and how dirty it is but a small dab of isopropyl alcohol should do the trick to clean most things.

I'd ring a professional photographic studio and get advice right the first time. Solvents (inc alcohol) are likely to remove the emulsion layer. Thanks for prompting me the google your question though. There's some really good tips I discovered
