[Pre Order] Reflx Lab Mini Flash (for Cameras) US$40 (~A$64) Shipped @ Reflx Lab, China

Shipping in early NOV 2023

Brand new product just launched today (20 Oct), the Reflx Lab Mini Flash provides a discrete hotshoe flash for cameras without a built-in flash like the Ricoh GR III or IIIx. It maintains the compactness that those cameras are renowned for, with the flash having the same footprint as an SD card. The flash is not TTL so you’ll need to manually compensate for the brightness of the flash.

It’s listed at USD$45 but there’s a presale discount of USD$5 available with above code, which comes to about AUD$64 net at today’s exchange rate (slightly more if you pay with PayPal’s exchange rate as they’re usually marked up). Free shipping worldwide.

That’s a pretty reasonable price for a flash this size.

There’s an alternative on Aliexpress that’s selling for about AUD$133 but it’s made of 3D printed plastic instead of Reflx Lab’s aluminium:

The other popular portable flash for the Ricoh GR III/x and other cameras is the LightPix Labs FlashQ Q20II selling for AUD$135 on Amazon which provides a remote flash solution for creative lighting. It’s bigger but obviously brighter: https://amzn.asia/d/2OoER4R

  • This look like the crappy flash that comes on low end cameras.

Something like the HVL-F20m is available from many manufacturers and they offer a decent light output and bounce function

The Ricoh GR III/x is praised for being a pocketable APSC camera with IBS, producing sharp 24MP images comparable to larger DSLR’s. It’s also known as the Fujifilm X100V alternative, but at 30% or so smaller size. So having a compact flash is important to keep it pocketable, even if the flash capacity is small. It’s only meant to do exactly as you say, produce disposable camera-like outputs which adds a fun element to the flash. No one will buy this for professional purposes.

Ironically the reason the Ricoh GR III/x doesn’t have a built-in flash was to accommodate the IBS while keeping it compact, unlike the previous versions they replaced which had flashes. So GR III/x owners would appreciate a product like this filling that gap for those who may find limited flash photography useful.

  • Patiently waiting for my Ricoh GRIII to be ready for pickup.

Anyone that currently has a Ricoh that thinks this is a great idea?

GN of 5… I wouldn’t waste my money. You could just use your phone’s torch instead.

    • Gr3 needs no accessories, save for maybe a long lanyard for when you're shooting with it all day and a spare battery

I'm looking for something very compact for my Sony ZV-E10
