Advice Needed for Normal Day to Day Usage

Lenovo ThinkCentre M93p Tiny Intel i7 4785T 2.20GHz 16GB RAM 256GB SSD Wi-Fi NO

Bought it for $85
Is it good for normal day to day usage. YouTube , surfing, not into gaming.

Which operating system can I install in this?

Comments

  • What do you do normally on a day to day basis?

Do you use laptop on desk or on your lap?

Do you take it out of your home, carry in a back pack?

    Etc

    • As mentioned above not into gaming. Will be used at home for YouTube and surfing the net.

        My bad, misread as laptop.

If that’s a 4th gen cpu, i dont think you can install win 11 or beyond without bypassing cpu check during install.

        Edit: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/design/mi…

My old i3-2xxx with 8GB ram was okay with web content these days.

        • Dreamquest Mini PC, Intel N95 12th Gen CPU 16GB DDR4 512GB $216.71 Delivered @ Dreamquest Amazon AU

Since deals like this are present, so wanted to know if it's good to return and order something above or stick to the one i bought.

  • DreamQuest Mini PC, New 11th Gen Intel Celeron J4125 8GB LPDDR4 256GB SSD(up to 2,70 GHz) Desktop Computer Windows 11 Pro Support 4K 3X HDMI Displayport, Dual Rj45 Gigabit Ethernet,USB3.0,BT5.0 for $185

    • The J4125 is worse than both the N95 and Intel i7 4785T. You'll find it slow.

The N95 and 4785T are within striking distance of each other (similar score on Geekbench single core) both of these are okay for web browsing and youtube.

Since you already bought the Lenovo, I would just keep it and not bother with the Intel N95 — you're not getting much of an upgrade.

Windows 10 will continue to be supported until October 14, 2025, and it might be time to retire the machine by then. Not to mention Win 12 is slated to release late 2024.

Try it and see. I have a worse spec PC that runs win10 fine for office and web stuff.

Windows 10 would be fine on such a device. You could do Windows 11 bypassing the check with Rufus.

You could also look at Ubuntu or other Linux variant if you don't want to run Windows.

I guess you will need to pay for the return postage.

My day to day Q9550 says Hi.
It is a Q9550 / 8GB RAM / AMD HD6450 / 256GB SSD / Win 10 Pro doing my daily web browsing, Youtube, Excel tasks.

    shouldnt ask before buy

  • That will be plenty for general browsing.

    Where'd you get it for $85 ?

    • Ebay

  • With the i7 4785T you are running 16 gig of ram that is plenty for web browsing.
    Anyways
The Core i7-4785T is our recommended choice as it beats the Processor N95 in performance tests https://technical.city/en/cpu/Core-i7-4785T-vs-Processor-N95…

The only thing is you will need to buy windows or go free with linux which requires no antivirus and has no forced updates it is very secure and customisable compared to windows

    $85 Vs $200

    • I bet the $85 lenovo has a windows licence in the bios.

My dev box at home for OzBargain is a M93p Tiny with i5-4570T. Perfectly fine for most tasks but a bit slow when I need to process videos or images. Those tiny PCs are pretty quiet as well.

    Runs stock Debian Linux.

    • Mine one doesn’t have operating system, how do I install one?

      • Download Windows, or whatever operating system you want, on another computer and put it on a USB. Plug USB into your new PC and switch it on. Follow the on-screen prompts.

      • Why no researchy before asky?

I always assumed your dev computer was like any of the super computers Ethan breaks into in the Mission Impossible movies.

Unlike supervillains in the movies, I actually have very limited budget and would like to purchase my equipments with a discount.

        • +2

Discounts? Oh boy, do I know a website for you.
