Oven Ticking Noise - I'm Going Mental Help Me!

We got an old Fisher & Paykel oven came with our newly purchased house. Recently the timer is constantly ticking and there’s no way to turn it off. The display is off but we don’t care much about the display. Just need this ticking time bomb noise to stop.
I taped one of the buttons which temporarily stopped the ticking but it’s on again. The electrical circuit board is outside the house and it’s not convenient to go and turn it off.

We are going mental with this constant ticking noise. How do we fix this? We need some genuine solution from fellow experts here.

Had a look at the files, couldn't hear any ticking noise :)

      Did you plug headphones in?
      .

  • Tape a tea towel over it, that might get you through the night.

Thank you just tried doing it but it’s of no use. The ticking noise is monotonous.

FYI - I uploaded the picture. No point uploading the video it’s clock ticking noise.

    Time for a new oven

  • Must be pretty cheap oven, if the knobs are plastic covered in some kind of metal coloured wrap. Maybe time for a new one anyway, if you own the home?

Oven Ticking Noise - How do we fix this?

    Here… You're welcome….

  • Seems to be a reasonably common problem for F&P ovens. Doesn't seem to be too many options to fix it or work around it.

  • Switch off at fusebox, pull oven out from under counter, remove top panel, cut wire to buzzer.

You do own a philips screwdriver?

    • Is there a schematic before I attempt? Don’t want to cut the oven light or any other features.

    Remove oven, fit new oven.

  • Is there a switch near the oven that looks like this?

If so, that middle switch may be the oven and save a trip to the outdoor circuit breakers

    • Nope can’t find the switch looked everywhere. It must be behind the oven and the wall.

Yeah i'd write this house off as a total loss

    Best get a new one.

Yeah i'd write this house off as a total loss

Clearly why the previous people sold it!

  • Unless you open up the oven panel and hopefully find the noise tick and take it out…… your best bet is to replace the oven

Looking at that model, that seems to be a very old model since 2014 or older (basing it on model OB60SLMFX4). Maybe it's time to update it.

How much are ovens? We just bought the house with all the expenditures on renovations and white goods it’s going to be a pain to change this now.

I can turn off the oven from the meter and then try to open the front panel to see what can be done.

    The Tell-tale Oven….

tick its tick just tick you tick we tick cant tick hear tick it tick

  • Just to be clear, its the timer ticking and not the gas starter thing?
I did read somewhere holding the clock and - changes its settings (looks like the one in tape) but don't actually know myself.

  • If the oven drops below 50 ̶m̶p̶h̶ Celcius, scarper.

  • It's more likely a mechanical timer not electronic.

Call the Oven Repairman… they know this shit inside out.

  • Quoth the oven

  • It's time is ticking away…

  • My apologies guys. I should have done more research online before quickly posting for oven quote. The good ovens are very pricey.
This particular oven is working just fine except this timer noise. I went to the metre board and turned it off. Then took trip twice to turn it on and off again.
Airtasker guys gave me a quote of $300.

Googled oven repair and Jim’s repair quoted me $490.

Do you think I should give it a try to open the panel and just do the timer bypass? I wish someone can help me with a YouTube video or some pictures for this oven.
I’m not getting much info for this model online.

Open it up yourself, shouldn't be that hard unless the front panel is glued for whatever reason

  • Just make sure you turn off the correct circuit breaker before fiddling with it.

BTW we have. F&P fridge that randomly sets off the beeping door open alarm. Damn annoying and I haven’t found a way to disable it.

  • I used to think we own gas oven but if it’s connected to the power supply it’s electric.

I called few repair shops the cheapest they quoted me to fix the clock $360.

Should we think of getting a newer oven like this one

    Is Westinghouse better than F&P?
