Recommend Site to Buy Refurbished iPads

Hi OzBargain community, this is yet another iPad post.

Looking to buy an iPad for Sidecar as I’ll be traveling and working for a bit. I could get an external travel monitor but thought iPad can serve other purposed while traveling.

The following iPads can be used with Sidecar running iPadOS 13 or later:

iPad Pro - all models
iPad 6th generation or later
iPad mini 5th generation or later
iPad Air 3rd generation or later

Really don’t want to buy a new iPad and no one on Facebook selling used iPad in my area without me driving over an hour. So was thinking of buying refurbished.

I found several sites:

Phonebot, mResell, reboot-IT, mobileguru

However, not really sure how good these companies are. So has anyone used these sites (or other sites) and have had good experiences?

you can buy direct from Apple refurbished

    • thanks for the recommendation, I've checked it and the cheapest was over $600. The stock does change so will keep an eye out. I think I would rather just get a lower spec new for around $450 from some of the deals on OzB.

Refurbished is always a gamble, you might not get the best prices at Apple but its fairly reliable. That being said, a lot of people who have newer iPads have probably upgraded from older ones which are now lying around unused. Maybe you can just ask friends or relatives if they've got an old one that you can buy off them for a case or 2.

Just beware that iPadOS 17 only runs on the later iPad Pro models: 12.9-inch (2nd generation and later); 10.5-inch; 11-inch (1st generation and later)

    • Why?

      • Depending on what you mean by that:

Because new operating systems have features that require new hardware and there are limits to what they can reasonably support.

Because older operating systems don’t support newer apps (for example, my iPad Pro gen 2 can’t run the new Resident Evil).

I believe these guys normally have ex-corporate leased stock. Sometimes I reckon they were never issued and sat in the box on a desk, or at worst lived in a dock on someone's desk. I've bought laptops from two from two of the above and they were near perfect.

Read the descriptions carefully though for the condition.

If you don't want to waste your time and you just want a good second hand one go direct through Apple refurbished
    https://www.apple.com/au/shop/refurbished/ipad

Otherwise, I would search Amazon's "renewed" iPad - at least if you get a bad one there you know the returns process will be honored and easy.

I'd just buy the current 9th gen on sale at Officeworks with giftcards, it's really cheap.

edit: Nevermind, didn't realise the giftcards ended yesterday. $450 is still a good price.

I haven't really looked at ipads but I purchased a refurbished hp laptop for my 10 year old daughter for school and it was in near perfect condition and its a way better laptop then brand new ones in the same price range.
I highly recommend having a look

    • Can you please share which model of HP did you go for? Thanks!
