iPhone 14 Pro Max Vs iPhone 15 Pro Max?

Hey fellow OzBargain,

I'm currently in a bit of a dilemma and would love your thoughts. I've been using an iPhone 11 for a while now and think it's time for an upgrade. I've narrowed it down to the iPhone 14 Pro Max and the iPhone 15 Pro Max. My main goal is to capture some stunning photos on my upcoming trip to Japan next month.

Here's the catch:

iPhone 14 Pro Max: $1,400

iPhone 15 Pro Max: $2,000

While I'd love to have the latest and greatest, the $600 difference is substantial. Is the camera (and other features) of the iPhone 15 Pro Max significantly better to justify the additional cost? Especially for someone keen on photography? Or would the 14 Pro Max suffice?

Any insights, especially from those who have experience with both models, would be immensely appreciated.

I upgrade every year - this year I went from the 14 Pro to the 15 Pro Max. The main difference between the two models is the 5x Optical zoom, which I find I use a lot more than I thought I would. If you don't upgrade very often, I would spring for the top of the line which will keep you going for an extra year. Especially as you have an interest in photography, I would recommend the 15 Pro Max.

Ultimately though both models are fairly similar, and both would give you excellent photos :-)

If you purchase the iPhone 14 Pro Max, you will be scorned and outcast. It does not matter that it works as designed. It is not the latest model. Your life will be H3LL.

Another Apple post, another DashCam AKA Rolts pointless comment. Weren't you the lad lamenting how Apple users are the sheep? Yet here you are, bleating about iPhone envy.

Curious where you found the pro max for $1400.

The 5x zoom though is a big one, but also the extra storage - I assume you’re talking entry level but that doubled on the new version.

IMO I’d spend the $600 on a couple of really nice
meals instead. This update focused a lot more on video than photography.

I went from 14 pro max to 15 pro max just because of usb-c. That alone is worth the extra money. All devices, laptop, iPad, iPhone now on same charger.

14 doesn't have usb c. Why buy something with an obsolete input?

      Because it's $600 cheaper?

      • That’s $600 for not carrying extra cable for the next 6-7 years everyday!

Battery life on my 14 Pro was poor, it was great on my 12 Pro Max. You'd be fine though with the 14 or 15 Max I'd think.

I'd get the 14 Pro Max, unless you needed any exclusive 15 features like ability to use the USB C to HDMI adapter for 4K 60hz. I think by the iPhone 17 Apple will have a major refresh and you can use the saved $600 towards that.

Thank you everyone for sharing your insights and input. I think I might be getting the iPhone 15 Pro Max!

  • Did they fix the overheating issue?

None, sell the 11 and get a 5c
