Tablet with Stylus Support for Drawing

I want to draw a storyboard for a movie. Ideally there would be a pressure sensitive pen usable with the tablet. What is the suggestion form OzB ?

  • iPad for sure. Wait a few days to see if Apple announced anything at the Mac event.

Budget option would be a graphics tablet for your computer. That's a plastic tablet and pen without a screen, you can see where your pen is relative to the screen by hovering it. Takes a bit of getting used to, but artists have been using these things for decades, sure you can figure it out.

  • If it's a drawing tablet with a screen, any of the iPad models with apple pencil support (they all work the same). Don't get any of the android tablets with styluses, they all suck in comparison. If you are a baller then Cintiq is best.

Well they don't all work the same, Apple Pencil 2 has hover with the latest iPad Pro, and double tap to quickly change tools. And the USB-C Apple Pencil doesn't have pressure sensitivity.

      • What the… they released a version that removed pressure sensitivity? Anyways, the core drawing experience is essentially the same (which is really good) apart from the weird one you mentioned.

The main takeaway from my comment was mainly just that you don't need the latest and greatest iPad to get extremely good drawing capabilities.

        • If OP isn't already used to hover on graphics tablets, then he can probably live without it on an older iPad.

        • Here's a 2 min video explainer between the three different pencils.

      • If you're going to go for something without pressure sensitivity, the Logitech Crayon is cheaper.
