Hallowscream Luna Park Is Shit - Where Is The Good Halloween Events in Australia?

Just went to Hallowscream at Luna Park in Sydney.

Incredibly shit. Shit Value.

Highlight would be the visitors costumes, makeup and disguises but seems to be mainly girls who are dressed more for a Asian Halloween night club event. So great for wannabe influencers to go there to take some nice Halloween photos.

$130pp for tickets.

4 hours where we got to experience:
- 3 rides (roughly 1 hour 30 mins wait the longest and 30 mins the shortest)
- 2 photos to download from the digital pass from the rides
- 1 Halloween maze approximately 80m long lasting a few mins that was sparsely decorated in a theme and about 6 mediocre actors in a section each.
- 1 Sideshow alley game where the guaranteed prize was a pin badge
- 1 Slushie from the $6.50 food voucher included
- A few roaming performers

I still think that Fearophobia in Helensvale, QLD has the best Halloween maze/event in Australia at much cheaper ticket prices - https://fearaphobia.com.au/

Movieword has Fright Night which also features long lines, but at least the mazes were much better than the Luna Park one with more effects and better actors, but long lines.

Some residential homes like Terror on Topham in Brisbane have done a good job for an essentially free lightshow / house event - https://www.facebook.com/iwanttoplayagamewithyou/

Not sure of other well known ones around Sydney though. I know it's not an Australian event though.

Best event has still been overseas, particularly in Toronto in Canada where the whole city goes into Halloween, they close down the major CBD road and there's thousands of people in costumes / performances, trick and treaters everywhere.

    Lol

    • I can’t believe they spent $130 to know it was going to be shit you could have gotten that advice free on ozbargain

      • Heaps of event sites said it was the 'longest Halloween maze in Sydney' and looked like one of the top events for Halloween.

Many others on the Chinese app saying the same thing as me but they went to take selfies instead of lining up.

Not sure if it was like this the previous years.. pretty dissapointing.

        • …the 'longest Halloween maze in Sydney'…

          Is it?

That reminds me, I need to print out this year's "NO TRICK OR TREATORS" sign.

    • Sounds wasteful. Re-use the sign from last year.

My son was an actor at fright nights this year, he had a great time.

    That's the scary part

  • IKEA has several free Halloween events: https://www.ikea.com/au/en/stores/events/ikea-tempe/

    • Good for home parties but not what I'm after

Luna Park has been overrated and overpriced for decades…

    • Unfortunately as a visitor just found this out. I did a check on Ozbargain before buying but the posts were all looking for tickets and discounts.

These special events are always pathetic, especially when you comapre to overseas.
Typical Australian way to put in the absolute least effort and charge through the nose for it.

I think a big part of it is because all the rules and regulations that are in place (not saying if it's a good thing or a bad thing) often means that anything "fun" is banned. lol

      • And cost of staff and work ethic of people getting minimum wage.

      • Everything also more expensive in Australia

Halloween is for muircans, don't expect a good show here.

Should’ve been there in 1979. Now that would’ve made the ghost train very scary.

  • It's not an Austrsluan thing. That's why it was SHIT.

    • Mostly everywhere celebrating it now though, the trick treat map shows a fair bit of Australia doing it. Just no decent big organised premium events except Fearophobia in Helensvale. That is done well apart from the big crowds.

      • Is it a celebration?
I know some kids are keen, as the event (as marketed in this country) focusses on receiving sweets etc. And obviously some retailers try and use it to increase sales (of just about anything, related or not).
But I doubt it is "mostly everywhere" here. Even then, it is very much aligned with the USA version and not the more traditional beliefs.

  • It's peak Pumpkin selling season in US and Canada but not here in OZ. We have no need for Pumpkins past October 31st and don't bake pies during summer for Christmas.
The only way to sell pumpkins past All Hallows' Eve would to somehow integrate the pumpkin into Melbourne Cup Day 😂
