What Is Considered Good Groupon Cashback and How Often It Happens?

Hi,

I am considering buying something from Groupon right now but at the moment there is only around 5% cashback and around 10% off code…

I remember previously there was around 15% cashback and similar codes… So the total discount would be at least around 20%.

Has it changed recently? Should I just wait a bit or is it normally like that now?

  • People still use Groupon?

    • Well, I am looking for a dental scale and polish… The cheapest outside groupon is around $100. On groupon it is $79 minus cashback minus codes.

      • It's your teeth - go get it done properly. At best, you're saving a few beers. At worst, you could get a really screwed up infection of some sort from a dentist who'll probably do a rush job.

        • Why do you think they would do a rush job? I have done it before and the job quality was the same as my regular dentist who charges $220. Also, the groupon deal is a reputable dentist with a great feedback. Regardless, I am not installing a bridge, it is just a routine cleaning.
Restaurants are on groupon as well… Do you think that if I come to the restautrant from a street rather than booking via groupon they will give me better food?

PS the difference between $220 and around $50 (depending on the cashback and codes) is a bit more than a few beers.

There's a reason why Groupon has gone down the drain. They shafted the businesses and often they (the businesses) were taking a loss from first-time visitors. The whole model relies on customers coming back for repeat business. A lot of businesses got the shits and didn't necessarily provide the full service that was on the coupon or just didn't honour the coupon at all.

I was just going by what you said earlier with $100 being the cheapest and the Groupon price would be $79, less cashback and whatever codes. (But I've obviously misinterpeted what was meant to be written).

@bobbified: You look at it from business perspective. As a customer I do not care about relationship between groupon and the business. There may or may not been some anecdotes about upset businesses but I never experienced or read about vouchers not being honoured prior to you mentioning it.
Regular non groupon cheap clean is $100, groupon is $78 minus cashback and codes as I said in every post. So that's around $50 difference, or around 50% of the total price.
But it will be naive to expect that the quality of a cheap non groupon $100 clean will be any better than groupon. It might be, but it is just a lottery and is not dependant on how I buy the services. That's why I jumped all the way to my regular dentist prices.

    1. Go to Groupon page on OzBargain
    2. Click on "Cashback" link (currently "3 offers"). Right now it's
      • TopCashback 6%, Cashrewards 4.2%, ShopBack 3.6%
    3. Click on the small rewind icon to view the historical cashback rates. For example
      • Cashrewards had 8% on 25 Sept, 15% on 19 Sept, etc
    • Thanks!
