New Basic cPanel Provider and Domain Registrar, Any Good Options?

Been having minimum 1 outage a month for 6 months with not much quality support
They fail to deliver something as simple as maintaining a working CName record and permanent redirect to a web server

Basically just looking to move 12 au domains,
Need simple CPanel for Email, and LetsEncrypt auto generation don't really use much else.

Edit: Sorry I have decided to move already, found an expired offer but the site was still valid so took it up,
was well voted so am hopeful

  • I had 4 basic bootstrap based websites hosted by obble for a couple of years and never had a single issue. Infact I even advocated for them when Alex posted deals here.

I haven't used their services in the last 6 months so things may have changed.

    • i was with stealth and they migrated me and the system was corrupted i seem to be stuck in limbo they have been unable or unwilling to fix.

I have been unable to do something as simple as edit the DNS records to update IP since January
and suffered frequent breaks in the DNS where customer complain DNS doesnt load so they went elsewhere

so i dont per se think the Obble system itself is broken but the half old and half new seems to be , and the support process

      • @Obble

Hey Alex, any chance you can personally review what's going on here?

        • +2

I've replied with a comment to the main post explaining most of this. I can't explain the issues since January though as I'd need more specific information, or a PM from the OP with their user account to see what this problem was.

  • Hi, I can't verify which customer account this post is tied to. But we have one ticket recently which was posted at a similar time frame (about 10 minutes after this post) and was negative in nature. So I can assume this is the issue.

Upon resolution/investigation of this issue, the customer IP was blocked for failed logins to one of the servers. Which caused the sites to not load for that specific customer, not an actual outage for other customers (or their website visitors).

If the domain uses our servers to redirect elsewhere, an IP block would affect the specific IP that is trying to access the domain (As the redirect is blocked). But it's a local issue only.

If I have mixed up the tickets, please elaborate further and I am happy to assist. The stealth to Obble merge actually only merged billing/support platforms, the server infrastructure is the exact same as it was prior to the merge from Stealth.

Regarding this: "They fail to deliver something as simple as maintaining a working CName record and permanent redirect to a web server"
    - This shouldn't have any issues at all, unless either your individual IP is blocked (Which would only affect your local traffic) OR there's an entire server outage, which we haven't had recently. We did have some issues with server4, not an outage, but high load. However (If I'm correct about the ticket/customer) this didn't affect your server.

Regarding "Obble DOES NOT support any editing of DNS adding AA or CName records"
    - We certainly do support A records, AAAA records and CNAME records. Both within cPanel and within the domain DNS management section. Albeit the DNS management section on our site (If not using cPanel) isn't a great user interface, but it still works fine.

If you can please elaborate further then I am happy to help, or explain. There's a few things about issues ongoing (Since january, in the comment above) but I would need more information to investigate the older issues and find out what happened then. We're not perfect - but try our best :)

    Thanks,
    Alex.

    • Cheers Alex for the quick reply and potential resolution.

      Please Dont Be Dishonest
The Domain Management page shifted from Stealth.com.au to obble.com.au with a plugin based model that support failed to assist get working or fix.
NOTICE: If you wish to utilise DNS Hosting, create email forwarders and use the URL forwarding options please visit the addons menu to activate the required addon first.

if you do block it you also block it from different IPs all around the world I tested via VPN to Sydney Germany and US and 4g network
Multiple tickets the system magically gets fixed by support (NO REASON GIVEN in the end!!!)

If i were to believe this story,
The block FAIL to ever notify anyone or state in a system status and FAIL to advise in the resolution to simplify the resolution

I could understand access to management pages being blocked, but see no reason DNS resolution blocked externally
I fail to see why failed logins would cause a DNS redirection to be blocked for all public services for customers whom have no connection to the service cannot resolve DNS

I asked a number times to access the Poor new interface for assistance DNS management and to no available

      All round advice
      Terrible Product Terrible Service

Bad choice for ANY prospective customer

      • Hi,

I see what you mean. The DNS management page is on Obble.com.au (in the client area) if just using domain DNS hosting (Included with the domain). Stealth also used the same DNS management but in the Stealth client area, so this had to be handled with Obble. Both used WHMCS to facilitate this (The client area/support software). I wasn't trying to be dishonest with that comment - My apologies.

The true Domain DNS hosting is actually managed by Synergy Wholesale (Domain Registrar), this was the same for Stealth & Obble, so should have been the same regardless. And yes it requires an addon (Free), because some people don't utilize it and it can add more confusion.

I fail to see why failed logins would cause a DNS redirection to be blocked for all public services for customers whom have no connection to the service cannot resolve DNS"

DNS redirection isn't blocked for all public customers. The IP block I mentioned ONLY blocks the IP that was connecting with an incorrect login (So usually the Obble customer only).

If i were to believe this story, the block FAIL to ever notify anyone or state in a system status and FAIL to advise in the resolution to simplify the resolution.

It's an individual rejection/block, so there wouldn't be a public notification or system status change. Our system blocks thousands of IPs an hour for malicious bruteforce/hacking attempts, this is done via CSF. But I understand that for individual IP blocks it can be confusing to have the cPanel & site not load until the IP is unblocked from the server firewall. Unfortunately we can't send messages to an IP address to notify them of any block.

if you do block it you also block it from different IPs all around the world I tested via
VPN to Sydney Germany and US and 4g network

Can you please PM me your user account name, so I can check previous tickets. As if you had issues connecting from other networks/IPs, then this was likely not an IP block issue. But I need more information to clarify this.

Happy to keep working with you on this, but I can't give a solution, or explanation without knowing which user this is to review previous tickets and the current domains and see what issues may be present. Previous ticket ID #'s would be great to review older discussions too.
        Thanks.

  • I just use a Panthur reseller account…

Not the cheapest option, but zero issues in years…
