Netflix with Ads - VPN Check Broken?

I'm with ABB,

Mid way through my netflix billing period, i downgraded from $17 to $7 AU plan. So, the ad one.

My new billing period started, i got billed $7 and Netflix wont work saying i'm inside a VPN - which I am not.
Netflix says i'm in a VPN
ABB and me say I am not

So, now i will work around by bumping up my netflix to the 4K plan, and then immediately down to the ad-supported $7; thereby keeping premium benefits and only paying $7 each month.

Is Netflix with ads working for other people with Aussiebroadband NBN?
Is doing this up/down grade each month going to cause problems? or is it a way to get the 4K netflix for $7 a month?

Thank you

  • If it becomes that much hassle I'll use other options.

    • Yep i'm leaning towards this too

  • Are you on ABB CGNAT?

Ask to be taken off CGNAT and see if it fixes it

    • i am off cgnat already
i think actually it might be cos i didnt do their age-related survey

In my experience this stragegy doesn't work because when you upgrade to a higher level plan, Netflix pro-rata the billing period and you'll be charged sooner than your current plan would be charged, and when you downgrade they only apply that downgrade after the higher plan billing period ends.

    • ooh so i get $7's worth of 4K netflix for a shorter period of time than a billing month

      • Just double check, but I think when you downgraded from the $17 plan to the $7 plan it would have only kicked in at the end of the billing period because it was a downgrade. Now that you've upgraded again to the $17 plan part way through the billing period of the $7 plan you will very likely find that your billing period has moved to be closer to today than it used to be. But do check your billing history on the Netflix website to confirm that's the case. I'm pretty sure it is.

        • yep!
before i'd get billed monthly, Now i got billed twice in a month
