Breaking Free from iiNet

Hi all, I've been with iiNet for the last 20 years because I stupidly setup my whole life using the iiNet email address.

Now it looks like I can migrate away my email address to a third party so I'm free to choose any NBN provider I want. Any ideas who I should choose? Reliability is important for me as I work from home several days a week. I currently pay $80/month for an NBN50 connection.

Any suggestions?

So many of my clients are still using various ISP emails. All are in for a shock when they have to configure the solution offered by the ISPs.

  • I've churned between half a dozen ISPs since we first got NBN. They're all fine. Unless you've got some special needs or use (gaming, file hosting) they all do the same job. There are differences in the amount of "backhaul" or something, but honestly I've never seen any real impact on normal uses (streaming, occasional downloads, web browsing) from this. They all tend to have pretty good service when you sign up, and are a nightmare if anything goes wrong - except Aussie Broadband apparently, but you pay a premium for that.

I'm with More, which is fine. If you have a Commonwealth account it's free for 3 months, with no contract. If you do cancel at any point you do have to make sure the end date is before your next billing cycle, otherwise it's a massive pain in the ass.

  • I just connected with swoop.

Was it because you were using the email address for your business, and you didn't want to pay the monthly redirection fee?

  • What is your budget if its still around the $80 mark plenty of providers to choose from.
Just keep in mind that the 50/20Mbps plan will be going up a bit in price if it hasn't already with your existing provider, as NBNCo are increasing the prices on that plan while lowering the 100Mbps plans so if you can get it you might get a good deal on a 100/40Mbps plan.
If you can not get 100Mbps talk to your provider about a free fibre upgrade either to NBNEE Enterprise Ethernet or if your home is able the free small business or residential upgrade to fibre.
