Taken from IGN:

New pricing of its range will be:

Kinect Sensor, $149 (save $50)
4GB Xbox 360, $199 (save $50)
4GB Xbox 360 with Kinect, $299 (save $100)

Pretty massive price drop. I don't need a new Xbox but if anyone was on the fence about it, now would be the time to get one.

Those are the sort of drops you see right before announcing the replacement. I could be wrong though.

I'd also be worried about MS's reputation on immediately dropping support for old products (xbox1 was dropped like a rock, ps2 got new games for years and is still being made).

Having said that, if you get your value out of existing (now) cheap games, it's a good option.

The difference there was that PS2 had millions and millions of owners. To put it in perspective, there are still more PS2's out there than Xbox 360's and PS3's combined.

That said, with the 360 having sold so many units this time, I 'm hoping we don't see such a dramatic drop off. Then again, Microsoft.

Regardless, now is a fantastic time to pick up a console. Why? Because there's 6 years of amazing game backlog to go through (and they're cheap).

With a new console launch, there's usually only mediocre games until a year or so in when things start to really get interesting.

I'm hoping the next console has some sort of backwards compatibility, but with the recent trend of reselling old games digitally, I'm thinking that if it does, it's going to be some sort of paid option per game.

      • Yep, I'd put money on them charging you to buy your 360 games again.

The other big question is whether second hand games will even be allowed at all on the next consoles, just have to wait and see.

Personally I think I'll give the next generation a miss at this point.

    Kinect Sensor, $149 (save $50)
    4GB Xbox 360, $199 (save $50)
    4GB Xbox 360 with Kinect, $299 (save $100)
    250GB Xbox 360 $299 (Save $150)

Is that RRP so we should expect lower price from the retailers? Because Xbox 360 4GB has certainly been sold for less than $199. For example:

    • Yeah, that's RRP. You probably won't see any fancy retailer deals starting tomorrow, but come Christmas you'll might see 4GB 360's for $149 or less.

  • the price drop is probably in line with competing with the wii u / christmas sales and the newly updated SLIM(ER) PS3.
