Realme C3 Locked or Unlocked etc

Got a cheap phone for daughter while back just to use in house instead of borrowing mums now and again.
I’m pretty sure it was optus locked how can I find out?
And what are the chances of me getting it unlocked if it is locked to optus?
The phone needs updating and many functions don’t seem to be working as I’m thinking it needs an update.
I believe wifi is not enough to update and maybe needs a sim. We was going to go with Aldi $5 sim or is there similar very cheap sim deals going on and who with.
If we do get it unlocked free and do get a very low cost sim deal me may keep her on it.
But I would need to see as her friend is already calling her on mums mobile and I know she will use it up quickly so sort of want to limit her.
But also make phone more functional as seems right now with wifi cant really do much. Maybe it needs updating and I’m sure this can’t be done through wife.
If I’m right Aldi is Telstra? Then no point in getting that if can’t get it locked free by optus

  • I’m pretty sure it was optus locked how can I find out?

Pop in a non-Optus SIM card and it'll show you a message asking you to input an unlock code. If the phone is not locked, there won't be a prompt.

And what are the chances of me getting it unlocked if it is locked to optus?

The cost of unlocking is outlined here Have you recharged your Optus prepaid service to a minimum / accumulated amount of $80.00? If yes, then it's free.

wifi is not enough to update and maybe needs a sim

Android Mobile phones can apply software update over Wifi, a SIM is not required.

    • Ok cool will try another sim.

Certainly will not pay $80 to unlock a phone ever the phone was orginally less than half of this if i remember.

So why is the phone updating on wifi

  • If you want to use it as a phone and you haven't clocked up the $80 using optus you can buy the the 6 month prepaid for $160 which would qualify for unlock and also give six months phone service.

Or if you are not worried about unlocking you can use the coles 365 day sims that start at $100.\

Also keep an eye out for black friday specials.

  • It’s not for me it’s for my daughter and at present we don’t want her having unlimited calls and gb etc, it was just to use in and around house or where there is maybe wifi.
I got it real cheap and daughter got it as a gift but she could not do much with it last night google was not loading up it needs an update I think.
And assumed the thing needed a sim to update it or I’m sure that’s what it keeps saying.
We was going to start her off with a very cheap basic sim then maybe get her a better sim deal and so she can use it more.
But probably by then she get a better more upto date phone and i believe these phones get very little updates the older they get.
I’m not sure what was wrong with it but was absolutely crap last night and was not connecting to wife and she even tried to get on YouTube and it would not load up.

    • Have you tried factory resetting the phone? And then running a software update after that?

      https://www.realme.com/in/support/kw/doc/2051721#:~:text=rea….

See if that clears up any software related issues, if a factory reset doesn't help and your phone still freezes / doesn't load apps or webpages, then you might have a faulty device.
