Groupon Selling Vouchers to Merchants That Don't Accept Their Vouchers

I had been trying to make a booking with a merchant for low value groupon voucher since late august. They did not respond at all. I've been back and forth with Groupon who told me I had to try again and gave me more contact details. The instructions on voucher stated only to ring mobile phone to book. I used the email address Groupon provided and I received a reply from merchant confirming they have not accepted groupon vouchers for 2 years!! Very frustrating to have my time wasted this way. I keep receiving stupid replies from groupon after I say I want the matter escalated. I don't think they are reading my emails correctly. I sent a screenshot of merchant reply and they have not acknowledged this. Has anyone else come across this?

    Chargeback

    • Chargeback involves credit card being cancelled doesn't it? I don't have the time to change my cc details etc and go through the process with the bank for this small amount

      • Chargeback doesn’t involve cancelling your CC, but have your CC reverse the payment you made to Groupon

        So i thought

Just ask Groupon for a refund.
Under law they must oblige if they cant supply

Groupon Selling Vouchers to Merchants That Don't Accept Their Vouchers

So to be clear they still sell this voucher TODAY!?

When did you buy this voucher, what is it for?

If the company isn't accepting it, then groupon should offer a credit

I would expect a refund and not credit :)

Agreed, but it will depend on how long ago the OP got it. Maybe it's a 3 year old voucher :)

As the OP is having issues, I would see a credit as an easier pathway than a refund in this case. Better to get your money back to use on something else at this stage than nothing at all.

        • On principal I do not want a credit and would be unlikely to purchase from them again
Purchased late august and first attempt to book was day of purchase. Voucher is still valid.

    • I have checked again and they have now removed the deal. I purchased this voucher in late august. It was for beauty treatment. I've been trying to book since then. I definitely don't want a credit

Would an example be - buying a Groupon voucher which Qantas don't accept for a flight that is still advertised but Qantas cancelled months before?

  • I'm surprised Groupon is giving you a hard time. Last time I had this issue, Groupon refunded quite quickly. All I had to say was merchant being difficult to redeem voucher.
