It confuses me how these are apparently the 'cool' drink bottle to have. Kids friends have had them on birthday and Christmas wish lists.
I'm clearly getting too old :)

You clearly don't own a drink bottle or their coffee cups, if you did, you would understand that they are more than 'cool'.

They are a Thermal Cup, so it keeps your drink (with ice) cold ALL day and keeps your hot drink HOT for a few hours. I highly recommend them.

thats not an exclusive feature to this brand though

when 10 year olds are 'craving' a brand of drink bottle, its not because of its thermal properties

        • thats not an exclusive feature to this brand though

Of course not, but they are a popular brand around at the moment that has nice designs.

Yeah well my 4 year is the same, "I want that because x has it at Kinder".

            @geekcohen: Practise this word. NO

            • @Protractor: Did I ever say I gave in to whatever she wanted, she gets? No.

I use the word "No" very often.

              • +1

@geekcohen: Just making the observation that kids trends are driven by parents, not kids. More so today than ever.
We have evolved (the west) from cave ppl to 'cave in' ppl.

@Protractor: Oh yes, 100%. I was at Woolies checkout and a lady next to me was asked by the Checkout Lady whether she wanted the Halloween pumpkin which was $20! and She said:

If I don't get it, he will scream

Referring to her son who was with her.

If that was me, it would've been a firm no and I don't care if you scream woolies down.

There is also a lesson in that, don't take kids shopping because then you get unnecessary crap. My daughter rarely goes grocery shopping with my wife or I.

                • @Protractor: I think it’s nice that kids and teenagers want to have things similar to their friends whether that be ‘cool’ or ‘popular’. It’s shared interests, belonging, appreciation of things they like that they can enjoy together. Not the only way to have these things but it can be a component of it. We are social beings, fitting in can feel nice sometimes, being unique can also feel nice too. Sure it’s marketing driven, but we live in a consumerist world where things are bought and sold for profit, and that funds peoples livelihoods.

The Frank Green brand has done this successfully, all power to them. It’s doesn’t mean saying yes to everything kids desire, but letting them have somethings they really want partially because it’s popular is not inherently bad. And yes, I very much feel for families that can afford less, but I’ve noticed that even people with low incomes do save to buy one or two special things for their kids at Christmas. For my kid he loves paw patrol and Lego, both very popular things, but he doesn’t only like them as they are popular, some of his friends are into avengers, he’s not even though it’s popular. I’m not going to avoid overpriced Lego branded toys because I can buy a generic copy cheaper and it’s popular. I’m not caving in, I’m buying things that my child enjoys and plays with for hours. If it’s a paw patrol t shirt which is more expensive than a plain one, that’s something that he feels excited to wear and his friends admire, and will get passed to another child once he’s outgrown it. Doesn’t mean we don’t also have cheapie tshirts, but there’s a couple of nice ones that make him feel cool. For teens and young adults if their thing is a Frank a green bottle and it brings them that same feeling of having something special like their friends have, I see it as a thoughtful gift, not caving.

                  • @morse: Doesn't negate the fact that more parents buckle than not, these days. Many pointless trends exist because parents enable them. eg, We ended up with Halloween to feed consumerism, not because it's of any use beyond that. Another loss of dignity to our US masters

                    • @Protractor: I love halloween, not because I cave but because it’s fun and we get out and talk to all our neighbours. The kids get dressed up and excited. Nothing to do with US masters. The Irish are right into it too and Australians do it our own way. I’m in my 40s and we used to have things for Halloween and there was trick or treating when I was a kid.

From what research I’ve done, they don’t go on sale often. Your best bet might be to get it from Myer/DJ. I have heard they have factory outlet sales occasionally, but that’s at their location in Melbourne

    • -1

but that’s at their location in Melbourne

      Dandenong.

      • think they're in South Melbourne.. unless this was an attempt at a joke i didn't get?

        • +1

They are also in Dandenong according to Seek Ad 1 and Seek Ad 2

In some of their other ads, they say:

our operational facility in Dandenong South

  • Buy them online directly, I haven't seen them on sale ever and I am on their marketing list for 18 months.

  • Every now and then you can find them reduced at random unbranded homewares/kitchen shops. But it’s really a right place at the right time kind of thing.

they have a frank green store in the Westfields in Sydney at the connection to David Jones on level 4 I think it is.

if they are a concession store of David Jones then you may be able to use discounted gift cards. getting said cards between now and Christmas is another story

    • +2

It's a frank green section on Level 2 of Westfield Sydney (or the Lower Ground floor on David Jones between the coffee bar and the alcohol department just before you enter/leave Westfield.

Discounted DJs gift cards are pretty hard to come by these days

      • ahhh yes exiting the food hall.
