Galaxy Nexus?

looking for a new phone! is the gnexus still worth the price at 350, how long will the phone last me or how long until it becomes overshadowed by newer phones? are there any other options at around the same budget? thanks

  • The Nexus is already overshadowed by newer phones like HTC OneX, SGS3, Iphone 5.

I still use an SGS2 which I got over a year ago. As a dual core phone with 1GB RAM it's already pretty powerful and I really don't see the need for me to upgrade to a quad core one anytime soon — all the games I play run on it fine (including all the high end FPS shooters)

In terms of support, Samsung is going to release Jelly Bean update for it soon. It may be an old device, but it sure isn't getting abandoned yet. Because the Nexus is Google's flagship product, it also gets the latest updates.

If you want something better than a G. Nexus, then you're going to have to pony up extra $200 for a SGS3 or One X. Otherwise, I'd look at signing up for a contract mobile.

    • how about: is the gnexus worth the pricetag for its specs?

      • I have Galaxy Nexus, bought from eBay in practically new condition for $314 and I can't understand why anyone would pay $100-200 more for SGS3 or One X. Ok, the cameras are a bit better, I've understood and SGS3 has some clever tricks, but not worth the money IMO. And scrimshaw makes the good point that GN will be getting the latest Android updates and earlier than others too.

        • alright thanks.. probably getting gnexus then. maybe cause the sgs3 and onex has quad-cores.. i think. are you using the stock roms? or custom ones

  • Kogan have the One X for about $440 at the moment. Another option, is the LG Optimus 4X P880 which is a very powerful phone (similar to the SGS3) for $379 +postage from eglobaldigitalcameras.

    • +3

LG is not very good when it comes to providing official updates. I don't recommend LG unless you're savvy enough to self-install ROMS.
