Toyota RAV4 Hybrid 2WD Cruiser - Graphite (Price Rise on Order)

Hi all, I ordered RAV4 Hybrid 2WD Cruiser - Graphite.

When I placed the order contract says $54900. I placed my order on 11/01/2023 and today I got confirmation saying it's on water and hopefully will get before Christmas if all goes well. But now they are saying current price is $55730. Nearly increased $1000. It's ordered in same year and I believe getting same year car.

Can they increase the price?

  • Cancel the order if you're not happy

If the final price is not agreed and/or we do not enter into a new contract within 14 days of us advising you in writing, of the likely delivery date, specifications and Recommended Retail Price, this contract will automatically terminate and we will refund your deposit.

Ours went up $4k and we're still waiting from July 2022. I'm deep in the sunk cost fallacy now, no escape!

Yes they can increase the price it's in the fine print of the contract

Also Toyota are not taking any orders for Camry and Rav hybrids so if you cancel now it will be a long time until they will be taking orders again

Hi I'd like to buy a car

Ok, do you agree that the cost might increase?

    Yes

Your car is on the way but cost has increased

    I don't agree to this

This is why China is taking over.

Toyota have fleet contracts with construction and government bodies so they have to fill those obligations (which also net them more profit) before they supply to their everyday customers.

But because of this, individuals who need a car or ute will have to go elsewhere and elsewhere is Chinese manufacturers. People will buy them out of necessity and after dropping $20-$30k they'll see whatever positives they have and promote it to their friends as a cheap, good car.

This is what Japan did in the 90s and now China is following them

    I'm seeing more new H6's and T60s than I am Rav 4's snd Hiluxes these days.l 💁🏾

If you are buying a car over 50k you might as well get a straight EV

    • That makes absolute no sense.

    • hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

not enough data from OP to determine if EVs are suitable but if OP is buying an EV hybrid it is most likely they don't want an EV

Similar thing happened to my friend who ordered a Rav 4. She was unhappy with the increase so cancelled her order and went to buy another car. A few days later she gets a call from the dealer offering to waive the increase ! Unfortunately my friend had already part paid a Subaru.
So if you want to take the chance over $1k, up to you.

  • Toyota…. The next Nokia

  • Trust me that is a very small increase. Landrover increased their prices over 5% for waiting customers with most wait times upto 18 months

      Landrover is crap though.

They can increase it, but just make sure your dealer does not increase it more than they should.

When I received my Rav4 in 2022 following a 12 month wait, my dealership told me that I'll have to pay an additional $3000. But fortunately, I knew the increase was $1500 after reading it online from Toyota Australia. I wished I had the conversion via email so i could have reported them cause no doubt they would have done it to everyone.

  • There plenty of other buy wait on rav4 a 2 years it took me 3month to get Yaris cross after my car crash white was all i could get.

So you are rounding to a nearest $1000?
Instead of saying approx. $800 (exact amount is $830).
Makes it easier to shame the dealer, right?

Let me help you deal with this grievance, lets round it to nearest $5000 instead, which rounds their increase down to $0. Better now?

There was a price increase in July 2023.

You’re lucky to get getting the car so quickly, some people with orders from late 2021 are still waiting.

Yeah, so, I ordered a new car back in mid 2022 with a estimated 12 month delivery time (I understood the circumstances).

However, during the waiting period, there was a price rise applied to my model vehicle but I never received any official, written communication (something the sales contract says must happen prior to collection day - they can't just drop the bomb on you the day of collection) to advise me of that price rise until my vehicle was on-shore and at the dealer waiting to have some final bits added onto it and when I was speaking to my Sales guy to confirm the company name to make the cheque out to.

He quoted me a different price than I had on my sales contract and I advised him that I never received any written (either via email or physical mail - they had both my physical address and email address) notification that such a price variance had taken place. After some backwards and forwards, I only had to pay 10% of the actual price rise and the dealership absorbed the rest.

I know it's not the same circumstances as this post, but thought I'd share.

  • what's so good about a rav4? I find the boot space too small in height

    • Some find it too high so they order a corolla cross hybrid instead.
