You can ship it to Apple to get the battery replaced.

    • Second line last two words mean that this isn’t helpful…

      • You might want to detail what those lines are and why they aren’t helpful.

I wouldnt have a phone if i shipped it and dont want to run the risk of “lost in transit” or pay the price apple charge to repair a phone battery.

I wouldn't do it yourself, even pros screw it up more often thank you think.

Yes this exactly. Even Apple broke my phone during the battery replacement process, and they had to give me a refurb.

Depends which model. iPhone X and earlier are trivial to replace battery. 15 min job, no complexity.

      • Yeah, older iPhones are easy to change the battery (I’ve done a few 7 and 8’s using only a YouTube video)

      • Hey, i have the iphone X, the instructions look super complex, wish you were nearby to help me!

Any steps in the below that you skipped to make it quicker?

        • It's relatively simpler than that guide. iFixit are great but at the end of the day they want to sell you their products. Most are unnecessary.

If you bought a battery kit, it will come with screwdriver and suction cup already.

          • Unscrew the 2 screws at the bottom end.
          • Use any suction cup near the bottom of the screen to gently lift up the screen. For first time opening, it will be stiff so gently continue to pull up till it comes free. Note there's ribbon cables attached near the top so don't rip it off with force.
          • Once all ribbon cables are disconnected, you can lift the screen unit away from base unit.
          • Don't touch the speaker or taptic engine chip. Unnecessary to remove these. They show this as an option to get at the adhesive pull tabs but it's not required.
          • Pry up the battery gently at first then with increasing force. It's set in with a hardened adhesive so will require some patience to pull up slowly. Try not to bend of pierce or damage the battery for obvious reasons. Isopropyl alcohol can help to loosen adhesive. Just keep at it till it gives way.
          • Once battery lifted out, insert new one and do reverse of above to close up.

First time can be nerve wracking, but once you've done it once, it's pretty easy.

  • An ifixit battery kit is the catch-all, as it has the battery and the required tools (and there are a lot). Goes for about $75 + P&H, depending on model.

Since we're on Ozbargain, get the battery separately from a reputable store such as CrazyParts or BetterBatt and buy the tools separately.

Lastly, you'll need steady hands and good eyesight to perform the repair. It'll be much harder without those.

    • Ii have gone ahead and purchased this kit, cant believe how many steps there are, about 40 and all the small screws!
Any tips? Some people say a few steps can be skipped? Do i really have to remove the speaker stuff aswell for example?

  • 'Gifted' you say…….

    • Most people with iphone 13,14s have iphone 10s in the cupboard doing nothng, so yes, gifted is what i said. Very good friend i have.

    which model iphone?

    • +1

This is important, as the older models are easier to open.

    • Its an X

  • Unless it's an Iphone 6/7 i don't like your chances.

The new ones are all sealed in and need heat/glue to properly undertake.

Due to health, i just cant make it to the nearest apple store

Ask somebody else to take it for you.

  • I've done plenty but XS and below. You simply order a battery and a water resistant display adhesive. Sometimes the battery adhesive has hardened and doesn't remove normally. To reduce the likelihood of epic failure, I use this tool

  • probelm is to find a reliable source of battery. I replaced mine, failed within about 3 months.

    • The reviews for the Ifixit website look alright? I hope it lasts awhile!:)
