Hard to find any decent 2.5Gbe switches below $150 so thought this was worth posting. Shipping time estimate is pretty wild.

  • Just gotta wait for nbn to catch up

    • You can have more than one NBN service to your property…

Not more than one 1Gbps at a time per NTD however.

  • it looks so weird with all this "empty" space on the sides.

    • +5

That is for the speakers if you want to install some.

      • Came here to see the comments on the switch. Left with some stickers. Thanks!

Moving to 2.5 gbps was probably one of the best investments i made. Moving large files over local LAN is so much faster.

    • I refuse to invest in anything less than one order of magnitude better. In a couple of years 10Gbps will be the go.

That was also my plan until I saw the prices of 10gbps components. I cry evrytim

          Yeah it's not a jump it's a rocket ship.

Like going from 10 speed on a bike to 12 speed, inexplicably just 4-10 times the cost.

The last 10Gbit switch I saw was $800

          Edit: looks like a casual $550 https://www.mwave.com.au/product/tplink-tlsx105-5port-10-gig…

@Telios: Totally agree. The problem is the switch is only one component and then the rest. You have to be freaking desperate and have money to burn to wire up a 10 Gb network when the fastest file transfer you could do on a NAS is 2.5 Gbps and for them to produce one that has a 10 Gbe LAN ability will be so damn expensive it'll only be made for a business environment.
I'll put in my calendar 2 years from now so I can see for myself that 10Gb standard won't happen within that time, 5 years if you're lucky.

Well when your hdd can read and write at that speed, 10 Gbps would work. But with the nas drives limiting speed of 240-280 mbps, 2.5 Gbe is good enough

Unless you have big data on SSDs and they would really improve your i/o speeds

three qvo 8tb in raid 5 top out at 350Mb/ on a qnap ts464

          • @FoxJump: I get upto 280 mbps on my local lan without any RAID and QNAP NAS 453P3 with 2.5 Gbe

@snickerz: Just to clarify, did you mean 280 Mbps or 280 MBps? Because 280Mbps = 35MBps which is pretty damn slow for LAN transfers.

      • I've been waiting for 10gbe to be a sane price for 10 years, good luck.

    • One could almost say about 2.5x faster!

Oh I need the PoE version so I can use it for Unifi 6E AP. Currently running with 1GBps uplink.

    • Injector?

      • No currently I’m using TPLink PoE switch 1Gps. So the uplink of AP is only 1Gpbs.

        • No I mean can you use an injector on your 2.5gbe connection?

    • Are there any negatives with having two switches in a home network? One 2.5G switch for connecting computers and server and one Gigabit POE+ switch for cameras?

      • any negatives

Nah, not at all. Your use case means two separate devices makes the most sense.

      • No

$99 here 'in stock at supplier' https://www.scorptec.com.au/product/networking/switches/8738… for anyone looking for pickup to save a few $.

haven't got anything from scorptec that was 'in stock at supplier' so don't know what that means in collection times.

Friends don't let friends buy TP-Link. Honestly one of the worst brands in tech I've ever come across…

    • +5

Not a fan of TP? How about KEEP or PIX? Don't want Link either? How about LIANGUO or IENRON or TEROW?

    • +1

For an unmanaged consumer grade switch, you're not going to notice much of a difference.

      • It's also unmanaged so it's just pumping data with no real control or monitoring.

        Bigger hose more water.
