Samsung CU8000 Vs TCL P745

Hey everyone,

I'm torn between two 75" TVs – the Samsung CU8000 and TCL P745.

Quick rundown:

Samsung CU8000: ($1495) https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/samsung-75-cu8000-crystal…

Pros: Solid brand, excellent picture quality, reliable Smart TV.
Cons: Potentially higher price, Samsung's own OS.

TCL P745: ($993) https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/tcl-75-p745-4k-ultra-hd-l…

Pros: Affordable, Android TV, good value.
Cons: Lesser brand recognition, perceived lower build quality.

Leaning towards TCL for cost and Android TV. Your experiences?

Also, is it best to buy now, or wait for Black Friday? Will prices drop further, or is the current deal already good?

We have a TCL C series and android is pretty slow so don't bank on for the OS, you will end up using a Chromecast or something if this is going to your lounge

With ours there so also a known issue of one of the display PCBs that burn pretty quick, so if you are going with TCL, get an extra warrs Tv or something

My C2US failed within warranty as well, PCB was cactus, these things ran hot.

Got a new one under warranty and sold the TV. Now onto a Hisense Q8 and it's doing well.

I have an 85" P745 and I am very happy with it. Build quality seems very good and so is the picture quality. I don't find the interface particularly slow, certainly no slower than the google TV dongle I was using previously. Turns on quickly and uses essentially no power on standby (<0.1W)

I've heard horror stories about the CU8000 screen, so i don't think i'd call it excellent.
    I wouldn't buy any TV based on it's OS…

I have a TCL TV I bought in 2021 with Android TV. Was good when it was new but the android TV part of it became slow and laggy after not long.

Very recently I was using it and the backlight died…. Luckily still just within warranty,

    Kinda 2 different price points.

TCL is great for any TV under $1000, prefer them over Hisense, as soon as you go above $1000 your Sammys, LG etc comes into play and it really is no contest.
