50-55 Inch TV Recommendation for PS5 + Movies - Budget $1,000

Hello, I don't know much about TV's, I think OLED is the best but might be out of my price point?

Looking for a TV for lounge room, only really used to play PS5 or watch some shows or movies with partner. Only about 2 metres away from the TV so don't want a massive one, 50-55 inch will do just fine I think.

I looked at JB Hi-Fi Black Friday catalogue, not sure if any really stood out as good deals. Any recommendations?

What about a miniLED like this https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/hisense-55-u7kau-uled-min…

You'll get some blooming with bright things next to dark things in movies and games, but it's better than having no zoned backlighting at all. MicroLED will cost you a lot more so miniLED is probably as finely zoned backlighting you'll get. Won't get an OLED at this price point either.

    • Would you say there's a big difference going from a ultra HD LED like this one:

To a mini LED like your one. The price point is way lower, I'm wondering if it's enough difference to justify $600? Maybe i need to go instore and look.

      • I'd say yes, unless you were planning on upgrading the TV again in a few years anyway. But if there's a good chance you'll keep this TV for 10 years or until it breaks, I'd pay extra for the zoned backlighting. HDR is the real next gen feature of consoles and movies and zoned backlighting really lets it literally shine.

  • I think a 50" TCL C845 for 995 currently at JB would be a good option

    • Yeah i was just looking at that actually.

  • Get yourself a 2nd hand OLED off gumtree, plenty of great ones around that price.

  • Gonna jump on this too as my kids destroyed my TV…Any good options especially with BF coming? I need access to Plex and preferably 4K+ .

NB: thinking right now to go for the samsung Q60 or go splash a bit more and go Q70. Any feedback?

    • Think your budget might be a bit higher than mine. I think I've decided on a TCL C845

      • Hi Twitchh,

I'm looking for smart TV as well and see this post. Thinking to get TCL C745 4K Ultra HD QLED when reading this post and you decided to get the TCL C845 mini LED QLED. With the price for C845 is 50% more expensive than the C745 (for 55"), is it worth to choose C845? The television is basically just for watching movie (Netflix, Prime) and for the kids to play games / watch youtube.

One article mentioned that the television is a long term investment, usually it last for 10 years, so better to spend a bit more to get a better specification (a.k.a. get the mini LED). However, other article said that LED and mini LED won't have much difference, so better to get the LED QLED and buy soundbar…

Could you share your opinion about this? I went to JBHifi, and since they played different movie, I cannot compare the quality of these two TVs..

        Thank you

        • Hello,
I'm still learning so please take this with a grain of salt, but apparently the C845 is just superior, especially for me who wants to play PS5 at 4K 120Hz.

Mini LED is also better in terms of picture quality than a QLED, but it's probably not a massive difference, but still a difference.

Gaming on C745 at 4K 120Hz apparently has higher input delay and it turns off the local dimming feature. So if I want a superior gaming experience the C845 is better. Thats my main focus.

Just for watching movies and stuff i doubt theres much difference? People say the C845 is much brighter and colourful. I also heard the C745 UI can be a bit laggy.

          • @Twitchh: Thank you!

That summarised all my questions / confusions. Heading to JBHifi shortly…
