Things That Are Worth Heaps These Days

Looking around many nostalgia items seem to be getting premium money.

Things like:

Old consoles that are still in brand new condition
Old games that are still in brand new condition
Old BMX bikes
Old cars like Japenese, Holden,Fords cars

Do you own anything old and is valuable these days?

I have a BRAND new PlayStation 1 in the box until this day.

Collector's and hard to find items usually go up in value. Then again try not to hoard.

Just think about how much more your money would be worth if you took the money you spent on the PS1 and put it into Apple shares in the mid to late 90’s

Yeah I got have tons of stuff that’s worth a lot out of dumb luck - cars, whisky, watches, shoes, and a ton of other stuff not worth mentioning. It’s cool and all but it would be worth a lot more if I had invested that money elsewhere. I still consider this money dead money, no matter what the toys are ‘worth’

PS1 launch price in 1995 was 299USD, today that amount of AAPL from then is worth $163,000.

    • Just think about if you took the money spent on the PS1 and bought winning lottery tickets

Most of these things follow a pattern related to nostalgia for things that were popular when adults with spending money (and kids of their own) want to relive that time.
You can predict how this works if you want. An Xbox 360 is worth almost nothing now, but in 15 years time their will be nostalgia for games that were only available on that platform, the hardware will have been sent to ewaste, and the console you can buy for $30 today will be $300.
Some other things like iPods (already happening), cameras, gameboys etc. will follow the same path.
Aussie V8s are already costly, but I expect in another 15 years there will be v6 BA Falcons selling for $50k (but maybe with an electric conversion!). If I wanted a unique ride like this I’d get an LTD or Statesman, as we won’t see anything like them again.
Other classics are already desirable, like an FJ Cruiser or the Jimny.

    • One thing that is suprisingly expensive now are old Canon Ixus digital cameras. I mean they were good cameras in their time 15-20 years ago, very pocketable and quick, but surely these days most mobile phone cameras do a better job. But looking at eBay sold items, those cameras regularly sell for around $200 or so. I guess it must be that nostalgia then.

      • I think so. I read this the other day:
        https://www.cybercultural.com/p/flickr-before-smartphones-an…
Basically says everyone has a good phone camera these days, so it is fun to take some pics on a device that is a bit different.

        • Yeah I’ve seen on reddit ppl buy expensive cameras then filter the crap out of the image to make it look like a disposable camera. Its weird cause they could just buy a cheap camera instead.

Last year I spent $150 on 2 polly pockets, because I missed owning the ones I had as a child. They sit proudly on display in my game room in pop protectors. No regrets.

  • a brand new sealed in the box 1st gen iPhone is worth around $40k USD.

driver plates from 1-20 are worth millions in Australia - i dont own any but i always find that fact weird

but like others have said if i had something of value bar property i would of cashed in already

despite the multi-millionars hard left ABC-smooth brains constantly moaning on Ozbargain i think the bulk of us OPs are working class slaves just trying to get by, if we were rich we probably wouldnt care as much about we 2 percent cash back from shopback

Get over your hate dude.A single figure % of Boomers fall into your specialised phobia.
And most of them had a kick start.
That said it is what it is. Capitalism makes the rules fella.Grab a beer (or get a Boomer to shout you) & cry into it.
