Alarm Clock Bluetooth Speaker

I wondering if anyone has any recommendations for Alarm Clock Bluetooth speakers for the kids bedside tables (9 and 12 y/o)?
The only feautres wanted is clock, alarm and decent quality bluetooth speaker. There are a million that show up on Amazon with glitzy LED's all over them which is pretty tacky, but if the sound quality is there might be ok, or the JBL Horizon 2 which as a bezare formfactor and perhaps a little more expensice than i'd like to spend.

There was a post about 6 months ago asking the similar with suggestions for a Google Home or similar, but I'm not super keen on that idea for the kids bedroom, though we have one in the living for Google doorbell.
Anything in the last 6 months rock onto the scene.

5th Gen Echo Dot displays a digital clock. Too expensive?

    • Oh thats an interesting solution. I had tunnel vision looking at only Google smart device, since that I was I already had. But the Echo Dot looks good, within budget (at the top of what Id like). Thanks!

      • 4th Gen also has the clock in a similar form factor, perhaps cheaper if you're looking for pre-owned

  • What is your budget?

We have this basic clock for the bedrooms from Amazon for $26. And under the bed we keep an old UE Boom always connected to power. Second hand units go for about $30-50.

Or Amazon have the show5 for $56 right now.

  • I loved using the Google Mini for this - pros were you could schedule it to play Spotify playlist (or news/etc.) instead of just an alarm tone. They also work as Bluetooth speakers. Another benefit would be the broadcast mode you could use to summon the kids for dinner if they're in their rooms etc. They don't display the time but take a few seconds to ask what the time is - I personally don't like bedside 'clocks' as the LED displays are often bright enough to disturb sleep. Not sure if you're happy for your kids to have smart watches/phones/laptops/etc. but usually the time is readily available on other devices.

However - I had to stop using mine for this due to the occasional (but very problematic issue) - where sometimes the alarm wouldn't trigger, occurred maybe once every 3 months or so and seemed to be associated with when there was an overnight power outage/internet drop out. Haven't used the alarm feature for ~2years now though so may since been fixed.
