Boohoo often doesn't have fabric information on their product pages for some reason.
I have tried emailing them about specific items, and I get a reply that they have asked the 'relevant team' and I should hear from them shortly, and then I never do?
If I email back I am again promised they will let me know, and they never do.
Do I assume correctly that it's probably polyester anyway?

Possibly the person answering emails is in a different country to the person shipping orders, so i suppose i cant be sure they are just too lazy to walk downstairs and look at the tag themselves.
Pretty safe assumption. Cotton is something you wouldn't hide on a label.
I wouldn't shop with them for the lack of customer service alone.
Also, you get what you pay for. Spoil yourself and get that Zimmerman dress with the money you've saved on other bargains.
