Should I Replace My 2015 Toyota RAV4?

I drive a 2015 Toyota RAV4, which has approximately 30,000 km on it. The car runs well, although there is a minor dent on one side. I have comprehensive insurance, which should cover the repair of the dent. Apart from this, the car mainly needs a cleaning. Occasionally, I notice the car swaying slightly in both directions. Despite having mechanics examine it during servicing, they haven't identified any issues. The radio has a problem as I am unable to program the channels, though it still functions. Also, the sensors sometimes erroneously beep, particularly during rain, even when there's nothing in front of the car.

Considering the car is about eight years old, I'm debating whether to replace it. I understand that buying a new car will involve additional expenses. I'm uncertain if it's worth the extra cost, given the car's low mileage. However, I've noticed an increase in service and other maintenance costs.

    What makes you so sure?

    • Good point. I am no longer sure.

The rest of the issues are not big enough to justify "needing" a new car.

See a reputable suspension/tyre/brake specialist for the handling issue. This is not a typical mechanics area of expertise.

The radio sounds like the wire/fuse that keeps contstant 12v is responsible. Has the radio been removed in the past?

Erroneous beeps after rain is a semi common issue. Your car being filthy probably doesn't help either.

All just sounds like a poorly maintained/cared for car to me.

Lol, you don't need a new car, an 8 year old rav4 with 30k km is nowhere near needing replacement.

  • +14

30k in 8 years, you clearly don't drive very much. Unless you have money to waste or are looking to impress someone, you should 100% just keep the car and get the wobble sorted. Get it detailed to make it feel like new again. I wish I had your car..

yea dump it, ill give ya $5k for it
clearly with so many issues and Kms on the odometer it isn't worth keeping or repairing
plus Toyotas are known for not lasting a long time so better get rid of it

Agreed, steer clear of Toyotas. I would strongly recommend getting a Lada. You can easily drive 10 million kms with 1 service.

      • +4

        You guys service your Lada?

Trade you my Captiva for it.

Trade you my Captiva Craptiva for it.

      Fixed it for you!

    Can it carry a kayak?

    I see two options.

Sell it now or keep it.

Occasionally, I notice the car swaying slightly in both directions.

I see a lot of cars do this. It's usually someone browsing Facebook.

haha. I actually do not have any facebook account. I stopped using it mid of this year. I feel much better though no longer take as much pictures as I used to. That is another story.

I am getting my car detailed. Will also check out with a tyre shop to see if my tyres need roating or balancing or maybe just something else. After that, will see whether I need to see someone for other things. Might even get my radio changed to be fair. Thanks everyone. You guys basically said what my brain has been telling me. My wife has been nagging to change the car. It stays with me. The car knows me. I know her. Even though we do not drive often, she knows me. You guys rock!

Just sell it if you get a good price. Don't need to stick with a problematic car just because of the brand's good reputation and people tell you to do so.
