Monitor Repair (Xiaomi, 34 Inch)

Hey OzBargain,

I have a Xiaomi curved 34 inch monitor that has worked for just over 3 years. A couple weeks back something with the power supply failed (the monitor no longer turns on) as the cord I have tested to still work.

Does anyone have experience dealing with Xiaomi customer support regarding such an issue? Although the monitor is out of warranty it may be a valid ACL claim as it should be expected to last more than 3 years.

If not, any tips for whether or not it is worth to professionally repair it would appreciated.

Thanks!

  • Where did you buy it from? This will determine your ACL fate.

    • Kogan

You'd be lucky to get an email autoreply let alone put an ACL claim through Kogan.

      • Next: HN, get faulty stock…

  • Fixing a monitor is never worth it, the depreciation of the screen vs the cost, its just better off to put that money towards a new screen.

    • Fixing a monitor is never worth it

Depends if you can fix it yourself or not…

Likely it is just a blown capacitor.

If someone was skilled enough or had the inclination of doing so, they wouldn't be asking this on ozbargain, they would just go ahead and fix it themselves.

      • I definitely dont have the know-how to repair…. To my knowledge it would be a capacitor issue as there was never anything wrong from the screen. Just no power to turn on suddenly one day.

        • Sounds like it could be $5 in parts and a bit of soldering to fix…

  • It's likely landfill or just a bulging capacitor on the main board.

    Take your pick.

as it should be expected to last more than 3 years.

    why?

    • I think its fair to say a mid-range monitor ($500-$600) should reasonably last more than 3 years. Not a low budget monitor so has a decent life.

should reasonably last more than 3 years

        That's just your opinion though.

Surely ACL isn't based on individual's opinions???

If you can't get it repaired under warranty, your city may have a small shop specializing electrical repairs. Could be an easy $50-100 fix.

I've taken few items to be fixed in the past :)

    • This.

Maybe buy the Dell next time because it seems like Dell monitors last for ages.

      • we have some dell screens over 10yrs old in the lab… but any brand can die in days/weeks/months/years..
