  • Any bargains?

    • Well they're all 'bargains' as normally the most you can get with their referral program is 25% off.

Link to OzBargain Meta Quest Referral page below for reference
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/referral/oculus

      • That referral page, once I save my username, am I meant to click on the checkmark for each game I installed?

        • +1

Yeah, it really needs an explanation/instructions!

You put username in and click tick for each game you own. If you want 25% off a game you click the 'random' button next to the listed game and someone is randomly selected to get the referral credit.

  • I'm late to the VR party but have just jumped in purchasing 2 from the recent Quest 2 deal that Amazon are running.

Can anyone who has been in the game for a while recommend some decent games that would suit the following:

    13 year old boy
    15 year old girl
Mum and Dad (not porn before the comments start flowing in that direction :o) )
    Family play

    Cheers

    • +1

Beat Saber is supposed to be decent, Half-Life: Alyx is good if you can tether it to a PC

      • Thanks!

        • after installing beat saber, install sidequest (ignore any instructions saying you can install from your android phone, the current android versions won't run it, install from PC. Also beware sites and apps /pretending/ to be sidequest) … then you can install custom songs etc from the internet (BMFB) :)

.. because the DLC for beat saber is crazy pricey and you can do better :)

          • @captain womble: Want referral links btw? :)
If we are allowed to do those here?

I also recommend the (tiltbrush based) quest store based "multi brush" which is a (multiplayer support and all) sculpting app that is a bit brilliant

    • +2

Walkabout Mini Golf is really well done and a great game.
If they are into rhythm games, Beat Saber as already mentioned is great and you can mod it if adventurous to play custom songs, which really opens up the potential of the game. Ragnarock is a more basic but still challenging drum beat game that can be quite fun, supports custom songs too. Synth Riders is another one, can bit more chill than beat saber.
Eleven table tennis is very good as well, but I'm personally terrible at it.

If you've got PC with capability to run VR games, then on top of the already suggested HL:Alyx, I would also strongly recommend Wanderer. It is a great escape room type game traversing time and history.

There are many more but just a few that come to mind.

      • Magic, thanks!

What sort of specs of PC are needed for the tethering aspect? I haven't heard of that use case for these headsets.

        • +1

Graphics card will be the important piece of the puzzle. Many graphics cards out there will be good enough to play the games, the better the graphics card the better performance, graphical settings, etc. that can be set

Steam has a test to check how VR ready your PC is: https://store.steampowered.com/app/323910/SteamVR_Performanc…

          • +2

@WeiKaiLe: That test is old, and doesn't give an accurate representation of current VR games and hardware requirements.

            • +1

@ldd-mn: @ldd-mn - thanks for that, good to know. I run an old system myself i7 8th gen and GTX1080, so haven't had to use it on anything newer. My specs run both HL:Alyx and Wanderer great though. Do you have any other recommendation to check hardware for VR that is user friendly for jollster?

        • The recommendation is generally "at least a GTX 1080 or equivalent"
Basically, not just a dedicated video card, but a reasonably hefty one (can be older than current, but not the entry level stuff, entry level for ACTUAL gaming etc).
I'd recommend at least an nvidia RTX of some sort, or a Radeon RX 6600 plus.

Hit me up if you want to discuss, I'm very active in VR stuff (including some dev stuff, plan to do more)

    • +1

      All good suggestions, I'll add

Puzzling Places (chill gameplay, well done in VR)
      Red Matter series
      The Room VR
Acron is one you can play with one headset and the rest of the family on mobile devices
Sep's Diner is a cooking game that the missus enjoys and can be played multiplayer on your two headsets
Racket NX is not too bad, stand in a dome and smack a ball about
Shooty Fruity is a fun shooter, Pistol Whip and Space Pirate Trainer both popular shooters
Prison Boss VR was quite fun to play
Pinball FX2 VR if you are a pinball fan. It looks great in VR
Virtual Virtual Reality series (the first one more so)
Star Wars Tales From The Galaxy's Edge and Vader Immortal series look great and pretty fun to play (Vader are each fairly short).
Richie's Plank Experience is one of those you show to people who have never seen VR, but doesn't offer a lot in actual gameplay.
Virtual Desktop If you plan to play PCVR, while you can use the included Air Link I still go back to VD. It just seems to work with so much less fuss (though haven't tried Air Link recently, may have gotten better)

  • +1

A few I would definitely recommend checking out

    • SuperHot
    • I Expect You To Die 1 & 2 (3 is out but haven't played it yet)
    • Beat Saber
    • Arizona Sunshine
  • Doesnt look like it stacks with referrals (using meta-dog referral service on github)

    • No it does not. In fact the referee sees that you have accepted the code and then no use their code.

    • @kehuehue - Can you explain how this works exactly? Is it per game referral, what does the referrer / referee get for using this method?

      • +1

Referrs get $7. You will get 25% off the game.

Note that OzBargain has a limited selection of games. If you need any more reach out to me as i have alot more that are not on the list.

Thanks! Got Red Matter 2. Then I found I have the $47 referral credit and added Resident Evil 4, Contractors, Superhot.
