and people here have the audacity to complain about high end gpu prices lmao

  • +1

I have both Aeron and Mirra.

    Mirras are cheap second hand.

Both are awesome but I wouldn't pay the extra for the Aeron.

edit: all the cheaper alternatives I tried are trash compared to the HM, don't waste your time or money.

  • -7

Is this a joke? These were overpriced when they were $800.

    • +3

Yeah let's be real, they've made a good product and now have just inflated the price because they can. Are you really getting that much better quality from a chair at that price point.

      • Had an Aeron for a while back in the office. Hands down the most comfortable chair where I've had to sit in for hours on end.
Wouldn't want to be paying $2k+ on it, but would happily pay $800 considering how much any other 'ergonomic' chair costs these days.

    • +5

Overpriced at $800? What other office chair do you know that people can find mid to late 2000s model and they're still in good condition? HM also included 12 year warranty with their product currently, likely to be similar back in the days.

      • +1

HM also included 12 year warranty with their product currently, likely to be similar back in the days.

I never understand this as a selling point for chairs. I've had chairs for a decade and it's lasted perfectly fine. If I was paying $2500 for a chair, I would 100% expect it to last much longer than 10 years.

      • -4

Wtf? Is this thread a Herman-Miller cult meeting? You can buy a quality high back executive leather chair for $150 that will last 10 years or more. In another 10 years buy another one and presto, you just saved $2000 over this farcically overpriced one.

        • You can buy a quality high back executive leather chair for $150 that will last 10 years or more

No you can't. You'll get a $150 pleather monstrosity that'll peel in a year, followed shortly by the gas cylinder. 'Quality?' Lol. $150 is about half even a basic Ikea Markus, and is built to cost. Congrats on buying more landfill.

  • +9

For this price, I will just refuse to sit.

  • +2

mfs be whining about Tesla prices then go out and buy a 2K chair

    • +6

For people that spend most of their time sitting on a chair for work/gaming, I'm sure they spend a lot more time sitting in their chair than they would in a car.

  • +3

I got the Aeron for $1300 in 2012. Used it daily since then and it's still perfect today.

One thing though: not everyone likes it, you should really try a chair this expensive out in person. I took my laptop to a store and spent a few hours trying several chairs before investing in this one.

  • -7

What rubbish $2208 for a bloody chair is no deal. Makes me really wonder as to what exactly are the folks who upvoted this doing here on Ozbargain

    • +4

I paid $1.3k in 2012, figured it was inflation or something, but I upvoted for the product it's self. One of the best things I ever bought.
If you use a chair for work and then use the computer/desk after work, it's money well spent.

    • I get your point, but what I have read is that people buy $100-$150 chairs that get ratty, tatty after a year or two… whereas people have been sitting on their Aeron for 15+ years without thinking of upgrading. It does last, and can be used as a chair to sit on all day, every day. It doesn't get hot etc.

      • +1

By that logic you can buy these $100-$150 chairs every year for 15 years and still won't cost as much as this chair. It is just an ergonomic chair, they haven't added any magic to it. You can get a pretty good darn chair for under $500 that will last you a pretty good time.

        • +2

It isn't just as ergonomic or comfortable though, but if it is for you.. then the answer is simple: buy the $150 chair.

        • +2

Forget about the price. Did u ever sit on this chair? Have u used this before?

If no, well, you have every right to compare this with $150 chair. As the one who has used it would never ever compare.

        • enjoy buying a new chair every year then

          • @Herman Esiesi: Don't need to. Have bought a $400 chair that is going super strong for the past 4 years.

    • agree!

  • +4

Herman Miller prices having been getting outrageous the last couple of years since the pandemic and work from home revolution. I love my Aeron, but man I would never pay over $2000 for one, anything but a bargain. At least not when there's perfectly good fully loaded ergonomic alternatives out there with lumbar support, 4D armrests etc. It's worth checking out the Ergohuman 2 Elite Mesh, the Konfurb Luna and the Haworth Fern (as long as you get one with the added lumbar support) or the Aveya task chair, all have most or all the features of the Herman Miller chairs but at a fraction of the cost

At the end of the day all our bodies are different and really you need to sit in the chairs and decide what's right for you

    • +1

I would pay that much (though prefer not to). idk how long you've been working from home, but bad enough back pain can make $2000 seem like nothing.

      • +1

I've been working from home almost exclusively since 2020, so my second-hand Aeron B for $700 has been suiting me very well. I can definitely justify spending a decent amount on a chair you sit in all day everyday, but there really are other great options out there (or you can at least buy second-hand) instead of paying these highly inflated brand new prices. At this point they're just taking the pi** just raising the prices so much every year

    • +2

Your last point hit the mark, really at the end of the day the only person that can judge whether it is worth it or not is up to them. If there was a choice I wouldn't pay over $2K for one either, but such is the market over here. The main thing for me is, trying out the main trio (Haworth, HM, Steelcase), nothing for me felt as comfortable as the Aeron did, so here we are.

  • Damn got one only a month ago 2500 lol

  • +2

For those asking why this office chair is so expensive. Longevity - I got an aeron second hand for $700 and it’s still going strong despite being 10+ years old. It’s easily the most comfortable chair that I’ve used and as long as it’s still in reasonable condition down the track I should be able to easily sell it for what I paid despite several years of use.

I think that currently most decent second hand aeron models sell for $1000+ and you’re not getting any warranty. If you sit most of the day and plan to for the next decade then I think you can easily justify buying a HM office chair if they work for you. Also if you WFH even a couple of days per week there’s going to be some tax write off.

I’ve also heard good things about steelcase chairs (though I’ve never used) at a slightly cheaper price point.

    • Yep, both companies offer great warranty time frame. Suggest people trying them out at the local dealers, I'm sure there are some in most main cities.

  • +1

Now these have the brand name superiority their price exceeds their value.

I went with Steelcase instead and find them just as good and more stylish.

  • +3

Thanks OP, bought none. I'll stand up all day instead

  • +2

I used to get gaming chairs and sometimes when I stood up I would get back pains, have since changed to a Herman Miller Aeron during COVID lockdowns in 2020 and never got those pains again.

The chair does not support or rather is not comfortable if you slouch or if you're are not sitting with somewhat decent posture, but if you are it's really comfortable for long periods of sitting. I WFH and also spend more time gaming on my PC so the chair has been well tested through heavy use.

The gaming chairs I used to have from DXRacer and Secret Lab had heavy wearing/damage by their 2nd year of use, I am now on my 3rd year of Aeron ownership and the chair is still pretty much new, so I'd say build quality is solid.

I can't speak for you if it will be worth it, but it was a great purchase for me. Also 12 years of probably the best warranty in the business if you buy from a reputable seller.

    • There are other options between those cheap nasty "gaming" chairs and $2.8k "elite" branded chairs.

      • Yes I am positive you are right, I am simply sharing my experience based on what I've owned.

Edit: The DXRacer Chair I had was around $400-500 back in the early 2010s and the later Secret Lab chair was around $700-$800, not exactly cheap imo..

        • DXRacer Chair

I tried this one, it felt very cheap and unsupportive. I think this is marketed at gamers, which explains why the price was so high for a relatively cheap and unergonomic chair.
I can't speak to your Secret Lab chair, but in the early 2010s i had 2 chairs from different manufacturers that were incredibly comfortable, and lasted 10 years of 40 hours a week use, and one was ~$600 and the other ~$900 (mesh type). Wish I could remember the brand + models, but i didn't take much notice at the time. The $900 one was sturdy enough that it was sold and enjoyed second hand, the $600 one was a bit long in the tooth.

I bought a Sayl Chair and was looking for a sale, Thanks!

    • +2

I got the Sayl on sale at a shop in Sale.

      • Nice, Could you tell me the location of the shop?

    Aeron $2,208, Embody $2,392

    haahahahahahahahhahahhah!!!!!!!!!

  • +1

Dammit. I bought this last month for full price (great chair btw). Does anyone know if Suncorp credit card offers price protection/guarantee? Looked it up on their PDF but it's not clear at all.

  • What's the difference between the current lumbar support (V shaped) and the older ones (where it's just horizontal)? I have the latter.

  • Holy cheese balls that's one expensive door stop

  • +1

Does it happen to make a coffee and read out the daily weather forecast?

  • +1

here are the things that cause our inflation!!!

    • +3

inflation was caused by the fed printing money and giving out money. now it's pay back time. nothing is for free in life.

as for this meme chair…..its over hyped over priced dog.

  • Wow these were $1300ish on special (we bought multiple so had more of a discount) during COVID. The prices now are mad!

  • +2

No wonder have have an inflation problem when ppl can still afford 2k chairs. In the meanwhile I’m trying to save $2 on Woolworth gift cards.

    • I'm glad to find a kindred spirit here. Everyone else is rolling in money. There was a $12,000 graphics card on sale a week or so ago and it was OzBargained (Out of Stock): https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/810611. Proletariat like us cannot afford these high end item.

I see news articles about how "People are doing it tough", but in reality the middle class is richer than ever. It is only the poor who are struggling.

  • Which is the better chair. The gaming one or the regular embody?

    • You definitely need to sit in them yourself to figure what works for you

  • And I thought I got ripped off when I got it for $1590 in 2021.. to be fair.. it's pretty great.

2 years of WFH later and I dont have any back problems.. this actually made my lower back problem go away after a couple months.

  • +1

It is not worth $2K. You are paying $1.5K for the name. $500 for the chair.

    • What is a better chair for less than $1K?

  • -4

    Sorry, too expensive.

  • Upvote for the chair, downvote for the store - Living Edge is one of the few furniture stores I have visited where no customer services exist. Requesting quotes are difficult af. They said yes on your face but when you turn your head out, they simply forget even you follow up three times. I believe they just don’t care about retail customers.

Calling them is also a terrible experience. Last year in a phone call a boy was rude and arrogant (can’t remember the name), simply saying ‘okey, I don’t know, call back another time’. Wtf? How are you supposed to answer the call if you can’t handle potentially unexpected questions, albeit I have asked to transfer to the right person? Totally shocked.

Online CS was pretty good though.

  • Those who’ve bought from Living Edge, could you please confirm if the chair was made in US or China?

  • -1

    Super uncomfortable chairs

If I ever walk into an office that has these chairs, I resign immediately

  • Writing this sitting in my 4yr Red Bathurst chair got for ~$150 from OW. Chair lift was saggy so found the manual and emailed the distributor asking about gas lift part no. about 2 weeks ago. They replied asking for photo of batch number label under chair. They sent me a 6kg box full of new spider leg base, wheels , chair base wheels and chair lift for nothing. Twisted out the old lift with vise grips and pushed in new lower chair ready for 4 more years of fast driving.
