What's with Games Sold by Big W, JB Hi-Fi, Target Being in an Opened Case?

I bought directly from those so they are legit. Opened box means there isn't a sealed plastic wrap.

Mario Bros. Wonder posted from Target in an opened case.

Final Fantasy 16 I went to Big W to pick up, no plastic wrap, they sealed the case with a band aid size sticky tape.

Last night went to JB, the game has only disc, the staff wanted to put in a display case (those empty cases on the shelf)

Mostly new games are in a case sealed by plastic wrap, no? Like those bought from Amazon

What's with those opened cases? I'm not aware of those selling pre owned, lol I never buy from EB.

edit: all good, i didn't know those.

i thought is it pre owned? staff have played it?

1st time it occurred to me is in big w, no plastic wrap, sealed with a band aid size sticky note saying 'don't break, or return refund not accepted' something, i was like wtf is this? it is been opened already

Some games come sealed from the manufacturer and some do not.
Some retail stores open games to display them and then sell them as new anyway.

If you buy a game from JB HiFi that is not sealed ask if they have a sealed copy as you want to give it as a birthday present. If not they can take it out back and seal it for you (have done this a few times).

  • Not a fan of this. I've asked everytime and heard from a friend that some Nintendo games don't go to them sealed

    • All first party Nintendo games aren't sealed, at least not from factory yeah

Some games just come like this. I have preordered games that they would have had no reason to open and they have still come in a raw dog case with no seals.

I know some stores will put their stock cases on the shelves, so they have to open them to remove the contents to keep behind the counter.

If you are taking them home to play, WGAF, but I can understand that some people are collectors and not having factory seals and shrink wrap can upset other nerds at swap meets.

  • bought zelda totk off amazon, no seal.

  • Also not a fan of it, EB Games also pulls the disc from a folder to put into the display case

Misses out on the excitement of breaking the seal of a new game

Nintendo does not use a plastic seal for games they distribute here.

Amazon generally delivers the games as they are from distributors. For brick and mortar stores such as Big W they open the plastic seal, remove the content and store then in drawer separately to deter theft. When you buy them, they will find the corresponding contents, place them in the case, and put their own sticker on it.

  • I know this is an old post but I must of been lucky.
I ordered Like a dragon infinite wealth back on Friday and it was delivered to me on Monday and it was delivered sealed.
    Maybe I was just lucky.

    • I think it may be different if you order online vs in store. I think some places take the disc out of the box as an anti-shoplifting measure. So you take the empty box to the counter and they fish the disc out of the drawer there and put it in the box. If an online order is coming from a warehouse (as opposed to a retail store that's open to the light-fingered public) then the box is less likely to have been opened.
