Lyoness

Does anyone know this Lyoness? It seems like it's started from Europe and into UK.

The website has been down soon after I logged on, but the first look seems impressive. Many big names in Oz.

I had joined but wonder what would be the catch? How can a person (my "upline") become rich without recruiting thousands of people….

Tried googled but only found some European articles on some scam.
Would love to hear from my knowledgeable OzBargainer.

  • Just Googled Lyoness and it appears to be an MLM company mixed with a cashback site. This post explains it all. Without being able to access the site, I'd say you're better off sticking to the AUS cashback sites (Starthere, Buckscoop, etc.).

P.S. the author of that article is from Melbourne and also writes OzSoapbox.

  • A relative in Europe has been a Lyoness member for about a year and she is sold on it. Seems to work for her. She reckons that with the various points and cashbacks and option conversions she already got a free TV out of it and about 2/3 off the cost of return airfare to Australia.

She also owns a small business that is in the scheme as a merchant. She likes it because being in the scheme means that other members will preferentially seek out her business, which brings in customers without the need to spend money on advertising.

She tried to explain the system to me and convince me to to join. I politely declined, because it seems like a pointless MLM + Loyalty program to me. When I said MLM, she said that it wasn't MLM and any member that described it as MLM would be expelled. Says a lot, me thinks!

Can you share your experience pls?

    • Hi Pumpkin_rrr,
I appreciate that it has bee some time since you posted your comment here. Neil, the community manager directed me to this OzBargain thread, so that I could share and comment on some of my own Lyoness experiences. Coming across your question, I just thought I'd ask if you got the answers and/or information you were looking for last year. I am Melbourne based, and you are probably aware that Queensland is more advanced by comparison in terms of the Lyoness deployment program. In any case, if I can be of any assistance, please let me know.

  • Hi all.

Firstly, let me declare that I am member of the Lyoness shopping community and have been one for about a year.

Having said that, I became an active member, promoting this to friends and family, once Coles supermarket listed as a key account/gift-card merchant. This was back in April of this year. Why, you might did I become active then? Basically, once Coles became a merchant, the model made more sense to me and everyone I shared it with. We could see the benefits accruing driven by regular grocery shopping.

In any case, since that time, a number of other large retailers have also become associated with Lyoness including: BBQs Galore, BCF, SuperCheap Auto, Dymocks, Kmart, Rays Outdoors, Prouds Jewellers, Liquorland, Freedom, and Coles Express (Shell Petrol) amongst others. It is also possible for local and small business to become SME (Small to Medium Enterprise) members. As of today, there are 428 registered in Australia, most of which are in Queensland and NSW at present. There are a handful that have recently joined in Melbourne. I have infact recommended a few of these to date, and by shopping at these businesses, members get cash back with their purchases and accrue the other Lyoness benefits. The small business owners get the benefits of new customers that are incentivised to use them. They also get other very unique which I'd be happy to go into, in a follow-up comment dedicated to the benefits for SMEs if anyone is interested.

Personally, I have found this to be quite financially rewarding. The basic premise of Lyoness is to shop and get cash back with every purchase for shopping you are already doing anyway. Put another way, my wife and I are simply redirecting our shopping dollar to Lyoness merchants where possible and available to accrue the benefits.

However, there is much more to Lyoness than just discount shopping. Whilst you can simply participate as a shopper and receive 1 or 2% discounts in immediate cash back on your shopping at the time of purchase, you also accrue another class of benefits in parallel. This can be anywhere up to 21% for Australian listed merchants. These additional discount benefits translate into commissions based on your overall personal shopping volume and and that of your referred shopping group. The latter point only relates to those people that are also referring family and friends to the Lyoness shopping community. There is no a mandatory requirement that you refer anyone, or that you shop at all. Joining as a member is also free. So, just to restate, Lyoness does reward those that refer others to shop through the Lyoness merchant community by way of referral and volume commissions. But to be 100% clear about this, commissions are only paid when people shop and/or make purchases.

Purchases, can be one of two types:
    1. Fully paid-up purchases. Eg You buy $200 worth of Coles gift-cards to do your grocery shopping, and say, $100 worth of Coles Express gift-cards to buy petrol for your car
    2. Partially paid-up purchases. Think Lay-buy or a deposit for a future purchase. Eg You buy $150 worth of Freedom Gift-cards to eventually buy a $1500 couch (representing a 15% down-payment or deposit on the final purchase)

That's probably enough for now. For anyone interested in further information, simply ask, and I shall be only too glad to further clarify any part of the program. And where I'm not sure, I'll get the information. Whether you simply want to shop and get cash back for your grocery shopping at Coles, or your petrol at Coles Express, or whether you're looking to build your own little shopping community empire, and accrue some of the more substantial commissions and benefits, in my humble opinion, there is something for everyone here.

    • Hi Enarxis,

I've recently joined lyoness.. and I'm not sure how does it work. I understand that it's 1 to 2% of cashback on every purchase but how do we get that? Coz it didnt ask me for bank details or anything. Where will I see that cashback amount? For an eg, if I buy coles voucher of $300 through lyoness then I'm supposed to receive $6 as per the 2% cash back immediately.. right? But I dont know where I'll be able to see that transaction? Also I haven't received my cashback card yet. I've got application in my phone where I can see the card but no hard copy. Any way to get that blue cashback card? The person who referred me for this seem withdrawaled the interest in lyoness so here I'm looking forward to get an answer. Hope to hear from you soon. Thanks..
