FYA "The new Quick Connect technology (pink cylinder)"

      FYA ??? IS?

      • For your awareness. There's a pink and blue canister that works with soda stream and aren't interchangeable.

      • +6

Is this good or bad? And FYI, no one uses FYA

        • Ha, tell that to my coworkers. :)

Edit: and it is not good or bad, just for your awareness.

        • +1

When I see FYA in an email , I think For Your Action. A way of saying the recipient needs to do something.
Good information though. The pink cylinders are quick release while the blue cylinders are screw in. They are not interchangeable.
The pink ones are a newer type and the cynical amongst us might suggest, as they are a proprietary mechanism, which others can't use, they have been introduced to prevent third party gas suppliers undercutting soda stream on swap over bottles.
For example, in Melbourne, Billy Bubbles can provide swap over blue cylinders delivered to your door cheaper than you can swap over Sodastream ones at an exchange point. They couldn't do that with pink cylinders.

@BravoH: Thank you 🙏 much useful

          • +2

@BravoH: Just bought a conversion kit on eBay so I can hook up to home brew Co2 bottles. The SS little Co2 bottles are hilariously expensive.

            • +2

@mrdesengo: I am definitely interested in doing the same, did you need to get a certain conversion kit for the newer pink cylinder?

              • @running on empty: I have a several year old SS machine. I imagine there will be conversion kits for the newer stuff eventually but it depends just how proprietary the connection is and how much they want to spend on litigation I guess.
AFAIK when it comes to the OG connection the Aussie/NZ/parts of asia machines have a different screw in fitting to the USA variety as well. Maybe we will see that with new fittings too? Who knows.

As for the litting I bought:
Cost me about $70 delivered for 1m hose and fittings to connect to machine and standard Co2 bottle from wherever you choose to source.
All I have to do now is wait for my SS cylinder to be done then I will go to the home brew shop and get a 4kg cylinder, the initial price will run you about $140ish? but refills after that are around $40 give or take depends where you go. I suspect I may have to get a regulator as different size cylinders have different pressures and I dont want this thing blowing up around the family lol.
My uncle rekons it lasts him about a 9-12 months. Considering I use a SS bottle about 1 a month I stand to recover my outlay on the first Co2 purchase.

Bad… More of the older type out there. Soaking etc uses older type

But that isn't the latest and greatest.

    • Better deal.

From the river to the sea…

    • Yep, one of the companies I've boycotted since inception…

Keep in mind by buying SodaDtream you are supporting the apartheid state.

They're pretty much all pretty garbage and let's just keep it at that.

is this only for making soda water? needs to make cola

Notwithstanding the canister debate… I bought a Terra the other day and have been happy with it. Talking to friends who have the older models, they all find the idea of the no-screw gas canisters (and water-bottle charging) very attractive. I haven't experienced the old method, but so far this model has been good to use :)
