Which One of These Laptops for College and Uni?

So many new deals since the last one of these posts!

My kids school end providing laptops this year, so santa has to bring one for next year - he's going into year 12. I'm after something that will last into uni as well.

Minimum Requirements (of the school) include: i5 or AMD Ryzen 5, 16gb RAM, WiFi 6, 256Gb drive, 8 hour battery and not a Mac (school doesn't support them unfortunately).

A touchscreen and pen is a nice to have but not needed (he barely uses the touchscreen now and doesn't think he'll need a Pen for engineering (though any insights welcome).

Options I've shortlisted at the moment are below, other than the Dell none nail the touch-screen and none have a pen that I can see.

$748 - HP Pavilion Plus, i5-1335U, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD, 14" 2.5k, 51Whr battery

$1099 - Asus Zenbook, Ryzen 5 7530U, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, 14" 2.5k, 75Wh battery

$898 - Lenovo Slim Yoga 6i, i5-1240P, 16Gb RAM, 512GB SSD, 14" 2.2k, 65Wh battery

$1,119 - Dell Latitude (Refurb), i5-1335U, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD, 14" FHD touchscreen, 54Wh battery, plus a 3yr warranty next business day warrenty

I should also add, I have access to Lenovo edu site , but can't find an equivalent deal to any of these (though could have missed it).

Any views, advice or missing deals most welcome too, to hopefully inform a decision late this afternoon/evening (or do you think I should wait for Cyber Monday)?

Many thanks all :-)

  • Wait for a bit is never a bad option, price will rocket down if any new types come out.

  • This one looks better if you could wait for deals on this model

My son has asus zenbook and happy with it. Lenovo is good from spec perspective, but my experience with their warranty was far from positive

  • This one is $900 off

There's also a model with touch screen and pen for a few hundred extra.

    • Nice machine, but a leap above the price of the above.

    College AND uni? Impressive.

    • Year 11/12 in the ACT is called college for some reason

  • There are generally good Boxing Day sales on major brand computers especially direct and via eBay. Dont rush for BF when youll haemorrhage 3 months of warranty for nothing

  • I think I'm going to wait to see what Cyber Monday throws up (and in the meantime, try to get my hands on some gift cards too).

Please share any other good suggestions too in the meantime.
