Best TV for Outdoor Bright Space

Hi OzB community

I am looking for a 65” tv for a very bright outdoor area. It’s protected from the elements, so dont need it to be water/environment proof.

I’ve been recommended a TCL 65C754 because it’s so bright.

However, hesitant about the brand, but the price currently is very great (Black Friday sale down to $1200)

What should I be looking for? A oled or mini led or qled?

It will be used mainly for sport

Burget max $2000, but prefer around $1500

What do you recommend?

  • just got a 55inch TCL 845 for this exact purpose. pretty sure the 845 model is brighter than the 745's

    • Good suggestion. Does your room get a lot of direct light?

      • we have a couple of clear panels in our verandah, and 2 sides are open, during the day it was bright enough to not be able to see the TV clearly, but the tv was about 8 years old and probably only about 500 nits, haven't picked up this tv yet, but it is about 2000 nits, so it will definitely be better.

  • I second TCL 845. Mini led. Definitely not OLED

    • Why not OLED?

Would any of the Sony range like the X90L be comparable to TCL? Just cautious as I haven’t heard much about TCL before

      • OLED isn't suited to a bright area and cant match mini LED for brightness. Also very expensive.

TCL mini LED is by far the best hardware for your money out of the two. But a good tv also benefits considerably from good picture processing algorithms which help motion of objects on screen look more natural, reduce blooming etc etc. Sony is king in this dept and have the best picture on a mini LED. The X90L isn't a mini led and has poor viewing angles, but has an awesome picture when viewed straight on thanks largely to these algorithms. I believe the TCL will be considerably brighter and I think it has better viewing angles. If I were you, I would get into a local store like JB and view them side by side. Ask if you can watch some sport or whatever you will be using it for

75 inch is also on sale and within your budget

    • Thank you. I think I can only fit 65 in my space

  • I was at the Adelaide 500 yesterday and they had these really big and bright screens. At night you can literally see the screens lighting up the clouds above from miles away. And picture quality was great even during the day. They are definitely waterproof too because it was raining. So maybe buy whatever they are using?

    • I doubt they would be within budget

      • +1

You and a mate put on fluoro tradie gear and snaffle them after the event ends..

  • Get a LG OLED G3 EVO. It is over your budget, but the brightest OLED on the market.

    • Massively over my budget and probably overkill for an outdoor area, but thanks for the suggestion

  • Got the 75” tcl845
    Will review once installed
