External HDD for Raspberry PI

Hi Ozbargain,

I have just purchased a Raspberry PI and have Raspbmc running on it. I am lookig for a HDD to hook up to it.

Probably looking at:
- 500GB - 2TB
- AC Powered

Are there any good deals at the moment? I have been looking though can't find anything really goosd at the moment.

The best I have found is:
Officworks has a seagate 1.5TB for $94

Can anyone recommend me anything better? Or should I just go with this drive?

    Uses a WD Green apparently

  • I'm still waiting for my Pi's. Ordered two but my shipment isn't getting sent out till the 16th apparently.

I've waited about 3 months so far -.-

But. I probably will get one of the updated models.

    • e14 or RS?

        • hey moots, yep i just ordered one. It appears as 512 on the E14 website

          Hopefully delivery today or tomorrow.

Still…. no cases until the 26th

        • So you're ordering today and expecting delivery within days? I've waited months… =/

haha. but the new model; what is the update with the Revo2? and the 512MB should be enough to hold the Kernel right?

          Cheers :)

So you're ordering today and expecting delivery within days?

lol yep, i've only ordered when stuff is in stock…. well the Rpi's anyway.

          I've waited months…

I should look up the date of when i got the first one. But it was only a few weeks ago :/ ordered when it was in stock, arrived 2 days later

what is the update with the Revo2? and the 512MB should be enough to hold the Kernel right?

Physically, the update has mounting holes, and they've fixed up the issues with USB and power.

          I'll assume so :/

        • Did yours arrive today from e14? mine did. 512 version B

  • What is new with the updated model?
I had my pi delivered in 2 days thanks to Element14

For most people the addition of mounting holes is the only real difference.
Otherwise there's some pcb tidy-up, and fixing 5v leaks on hdmi

and now double the ram, woot, they will roll out a firmware update to activate the extra ram for those lucky enough to already have their hands on the latest rev 2 boards (2.1?)

  • Just arrived today…. WOOT WOOT

    • Lucky Bugger. I ordered mine from RSDelivery. fmd it takes so long -.-

      • oh man, there are so many complaints on other forums about RS

  • Can I ask if you can use torrents on Pi?

I've been using my gaming pc to torrent recently and I know that it drains so much damn power…
I want to know if the Pi can support torrenting for 'legal' downloads :D
