Drop alt vs akko 3068b? (Mechanical keyboard)

What do we think peeps?

Don't care about wireless etc, just the typing experience and quality - are the Chinese budget brands punching above their weight?

    I've got the Akko 3098b, a 96%.

Good sound, the stock switches are good to type on (Crystal switches) but I replaced them with Silver prelubed switches.

Only paid $98 for mine and I'd say it's miles ahead of any logitech Keyboard in the same price range.

    • Cheers, what do you think build quality wise? Does it feel solid?

If I press hard around the corners (by pinching the chassis with finger and thumb) it creaks a bit, but when typing there is no flex. Not hollow sounding, i'd say it's clacky sounding keeb. It's an all-plastic construction, no metal base plate or anything fancy, but overall build quality and typing experience meets expectations — for a $100 keyboard.

I was previously using the motospeed GK82, that keyboard is just garbage by comparison. Also own an AZIO MGK L80 (it's bad) and a Logitech MX Keys (best membrane keyboard I've used but it's wearing out after 2 years of heavy usage)

          Thanks!

  • Drop are generally over-priced for what you get. It's also worth checking out 2nd hand options as the products are usually well looked after in my experience.

    • Yeah, that's what I'm thinking re drop. Thanks for the tips on second handers, will check it out.

  • Bought the Drop Alt on a deal here and I have been pretty disappointed. I think many of the positive reviews were written when it was first released. There have been big advances in MKBs in the last few years and the Alt just hasn't kept up. Poor stabilisers and a very hollow sound. People say you can get it pretty good with foam mods and stab replacements, but why bother when there are so many that are better out of the box now? A lot of Chinese brands are definitely punching above their weight. I recently tried a Lofree Flow with no mods and was blown away. If you're using it for gaming, however, remember to look into the latency of some of the Chinese ones, they can vary from excellent to pretty poor. If you don't game then I'd definitely give them a look.
