Dell Vs Lenovo Vs Microsoft

Hello All.

I'm wondering what's the best laptop for work between DELL, LENOVO and Microsoft Surface.

Currently have XPS 13 (Touch screen) with 8 GB RAM and i5 Intel Processor. I'm looking for an upgrade as this hibernates automatically upon workload, and its pretty annoying.

Was thinking of either upgrading to 32GB RAM, but Microsoft Surface Pro is pretty expensive for this. I'm thinking if 16GB ram does the job?

I use three different browsers with multiple tabs open, outlook, teams.

If you can suggest some great laptop suggestions, it will be helpful. Thanks in advance.

There's really not much in the OP that gives anyone (who knows what they are talking about- you'll be sure to get loads of random opinions though) much to go on.

Budget? Screen size? Weight preferences? Ports?

What does this mean- as soon as you get the cores going hard it… goes into hibernate mode? This suggests something is broken, not that you need a more powerful machine.

Having trouble seeing how you could possibly need 32GB RAM to run some browsers and light office productivity software. Unless there is some amazingly resource hungry tabs open. Teams is definitely a huge POS though. 16GB should be more than enough for day to day use, 32 is for people who really know why they need it.

      Could be full of dust

  • It's personal preference between Dell and Lenovo.
Pick whichever has the better deals, combined with cash-back?
16gb is more than enough for most applications. Is your old laptop full of dust and overheating?

    • Could be dust. It overheats on rare occasions.

I guess 16GB sounds good as per suggestions.

Have you tried cleaning out the dust?

        • Cleared out the dust. Lets how it performs tomorrow at work. Thanks for the advice

          • @SnakeGrape: I'm emotionally invested in your laptop. How is it?

@BoltThrower: Haha… It's performed well. Had few issues compared to previous times. However, I already ordered a new XPS laptop with 16GB ram. Thanks for the follow up.

I have a surface and an xps. A surface isnt really a workhorse. If you dont like the xps, then a surface is a waste of money (but you'll look good doing it).

Why not fix the issue with the xps?

Could do those "jobs" with 4GB

It sounds like you just need to fix the fault with your computer.
Maybe disable hibernate mode & see what it does?

  • I have a Dell XPS 13 and hibernating drives me crazy. I have the opposite problem. I can't hibernate it when I need to - it just starts up again. Which means it goes into the bag running, overheats and crashes.

I'd probably buy an XPS again but I'm going to make sure they put in writing that it supports hibernation. And if the new one does the same thing it's going back.
